The issue with the apostrophes has been resolved, but around the time Doc announced the squashing of that one, a new bug seemed to be born into existence.

What exactly are the specifics? Well, here's a picture.

Image

As you can see, the following appears on the top of the screen.

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp/sess_shkochlc8sqt4t4q9fb6b5jk45, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php on line 6

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php:6) in /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php on line 6

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php:6) in /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php on line 78

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php:6) in /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php on line 79

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php:6) in /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php on line 170

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php:6) in /home/inter/public_html/mboard/header.php on line 172

Here's a picture of the bottom.

Image

You can see that similar text appears at the bottom of the screen.

Warning: Unknown(): open(/tmp/sess_shkochlc8sqt4t4q9fb6b5jk45, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

Also, though it may not be readily apparent, the default text size has become roughly two sizes larger than originally.

One last note: If I go to the Unread Topics, it does keep track of new posts. However, it never acknowledges that I have read them. No matter what I do, short of clicking the Mark all Posts button -- which I have yet to try -- it will not change.

To clarify, this is what I see:

Image

If I proceed to visit every topic, when I click Unread posts again, this is what I will see upon my return.

Image

At this point, I tested the Mark All Posts as Read button. The attempt had absolutely no effect whatsoever.

Now, to document my browser, I'm using FireFox, build 2.0.0.11. Luckily for me, I have a handy extension that lets me switch the rendering engine to IE if the situation calls for it. So let's see if the issue is with the site or with FireFox.

Image

As you can see, the error text at the top is missing. It is the same for the bottom. The text is of normal size, and the topics are gone. Of course it had no undread to start with, so I can't know for sure.

In conclusion, let me first put a disclaimer: I am not a coder, a programmer or a designer by any stretch of the imagination. However, I have a gut feeling that somehow by squashing that last bug, Doc inadvertently created a few rendering issues with FireFox.

Appropriate name for the thread, that's for sure...

I haven't had this problem yet. While I have had that first one you mentioned, its been very rare for me, and I haven't had it happen in months.

Also, I only use FireFox, unless I'm opening my hotmail through MSN messenger. So I'm not sure if FireFox is part of the problem or not.

I'm mostly a Firefox user too, and I'd have noticed it if something that big had showed up.

In this case, it's not a bug with IOBoard: it's a server-side issue, where my webhost probably changed a setting related to the PHP sessions. The board was no longer able to save the modifications, so all of your posts couldn't be marked as read anymore.

The warning doesn't show up anymore, so I'm guessing that my host fixed the issue. I know that they have changed some settings in the last few weeks, so perhaps something similar to this will show up sooner or later. It's for the best, though: it opens some new options within PHP, which can get very handy for me.

In any case, thanks for the detailed report: with the amount of information you offered, there was no doubt about the source of the problem! :D

The issue seems to remain unresolved, as all of the symptoms are still present when rendered in FireFox.

I've gone through every link on this board so far, and I've yet to see such an error, Mega.

I think, I think it was a onetime issue now, unless you can post a screen show of it happened like..at your present time.

It was happening to me since about the 24th, when Doc announced that the apostrophe problem had been fixed. Clearly it was not a one-time issue, as it happened to every page I loaded, and never once marked my posts as read. This continues to be the case even still.

I'm not exactly sure if you're doubting my story or doubting that it's still happening, but nevertheless I will give you the screenshot you requested.

BTW, if anyone still hasn't guessed the topic naming, it's based on my initial guess as to the problem. I had guessed (incorrectly as I later found) that Doc's fixing of one issue led to the creating of another. OK, just as an update. It appears that there is one for a topic to register as read, and that's to post in it. But that only works until someone else posts.

That'd make sense considering how the board software works.

However, I really can't explain your issue. You're apparently the only one seeing this, while it should happen to everyone (or no one) all at once. It's definitely strange...

Whatever it is, the problem seems to have passed and things have returned to normal.
