finally got the time to start Diabolical Box, and I can already tell the effort and quality has skyrocketed compared to the original.

Also a really cool piece of info: if you beat Layton 4, you unlock an 100+ hour Layton RPG made by the creators of Mother 3

100+ hours worth of fetch quests...? I wouldn't describe that as "cool", it sounds more like "horribly slow and painful death" to me. Fetch quests are usually the part that I dislike the most in any RPG!

Lilarcor in Morrowind says it best: "'Fetch me a rock, deliver this toothpick, do this, do that...' why don't we get more quests to go kill something!?"

Keep in mind, Doc, that Layton is one of Teej's obsessions. You know how he gets when it comes to one of his obsessions.

It's not because it's an obsession that it's automatically a bad thing. :) The Professor Layton games do look nicely done, even if I'm not interested in playing them. A 100+ hours fetch quest RPG just sounds so... bad.

The "cool" thing about it is that it's an EXTRA, OPTIONAL unlockable. The Layton formula will still be used for the main game.

I just beat the second game today before work. Loved the ending although the explanation about the town was... stupid. The first game's was easier to swallow.

My opinion: the story was better in DB (not stuck in one location is good and adds to the feeling you are advancing somewhere) but I liked CV's puzzles because most of the puzzles in DB seemed like rehashes of the first game's.

I can't wait for the movie. 2010!

I, too, loved the ending. It was one of the most bittersweet moments ever. ;_;

Also I sorta liked the explination of the town's appearance for no other reason other than

  Spoiler (highlight to read):

Since everyone in the town was high as a kite with that gas, coupled with Anton's aging body, I imagine Layton and Anton just randomly swinging blades around drooling when they thought they were having an epic duel.

It's been two years already?

Professor Layton & the Last Specter (the fourth one) is coming on October 17, and the 100-hours crazy RPG thing will be available to us as well. Now I need to ask myself which one between the second, third, fourth and fifth (3DS) game I'll pick up, as going through all of them will take too much time!

Don't say thaaaaaaaat

If you have to go with ONE for now, pick up 4, since it's actually a prequel to the first game. Pick up 2 and 3 during the downtime to game 5. Layton games take their sweet time getting localized, so it shouldn't be a time issue.

Just for reference, the order of games in order are 4, 5, 1, 2, 3. The movie is somewhere in the middle in there, but I know it's before the first game as well. Probably between 4 and 5.

I don't want to say it! However, I've got a limited amount of time that I put on handheld gaming, which is mostly while I'm on the move. If I get more games, I'll end up playing them at home, and that would eat in my PC gaming time. Surely you don't want that to happen, now. ;)

4 it will be, then, and I'll keep an eye on the others just in case. Thanks for the tip!

I'd rather you play Layton than PC games.

Really.

YOU CAN'T JUST QUIT MID-WAY.

Layton 5 finally hits on October 28th. Get your top hats ready!

I'll probably pick that one up.

Oh man, I laughed so much at this one. I feel like facepalming so much every time that someone in that series utters the words "this reminds me of a puzzle"!
