Any anyone here watched the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni or Umineko no Naku Koro ni series? I went through both some time back, and I had a good time doing so! I even got myself a fan-made poster of Higurashi displayed in my room at home. Those who've seen Umineko will definitely recognize Ange as part of this forum's banner, her being my favorite character and all.

Both franchises have an interesting cast of characters and plot twists galore, which I always love. Higurashi's four series are especially nice for that, since they go through a long process of establishing all characters and situations so that each person is fleshed out to get you to care about what happens to them.

Mild spoilers on the structure of the plot follow...

I love stories involving time loops or alternate universes, so I felt right at home with the structure of both Higurashi and Umineko. It's always the same thing, yet repeats itself in such a different way that you never really know what's coming up next!

Is anyone familiar with other anime series that follow a structure like that, or have a similar mood? I'd like to get my hands on something new and as interesting as these two.

I'm now seriously considering "playing" (more like reading, in this case) the original Visual Novels from Umineko. The anime series could have definitely used a second season to show more scenes and provide some answers, and I've heard about a few plot points that got me very curious about what's coming up next. Luckily enough, a fan translation is available and is apparently good. You can check their site for official purchase links for the novels, too.
