So some time ago, Command and Conquer: Generals 2 was announced to be in the making, surprising quite a few people after the disaster that was Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight. And after an interview concerning the game's story, people were actually looking forward to the game they were going to get!

Naturally, EA can't allow happiness, and has made this announcement:

EA Makes Command & Conquer: Generals 2 Free
"And drops the single-player portion and changes the title, establishing Command & Conquer as a free-to-play platform."

That sound you're hearing is a lot of rage from franchise fans. Multiplayer is the single weakest aspect of Command and Conquer and the single player campaign its strongest aspect. C&C isn't Starcraft, EA.

"Why do you care that I care that you care enough to care that I care for caring?" "Conversation isn't your strong point, is it?"
"I worship the supreme comrade Cossack!"
"OugharagarraaahhHHH: When 'Ow' just won't cut it."

But EA was supposed to be part of the good guys now that they're suing Zynga!

I haven't played any of the C&C games, but I had a similar reaction when Microsoft first canned the makers of the Age of Empires series, Ensemble Studios, then moved the series as a kind of free-to-play online-only game. I've been trying to forget that this entry even exists. True, the multiplayer aspect of the Age games was one of it's strongest points, but the solid campaign mode was totally worth it too. I can still play my copies of Age of Empires I & II to this day, both in single and multiplayer modes; I doubt that any of those free-to-play games will be available a decade from now.
