So icq hasn't been very kind to me recently so I had to let it go and download trillian.

Being new to this IM service, I apparently don't know how to do crap except get on icq and I don't know how anything else works. If you have advice to give or would like to give your IM contact to me, that would be super.

Apparently there's an irc option that I can use and I immediately typed in the chat4all info that's on the chatroom page. Now I can't chat in the #mmpc chatroom with trillian OR the java applet. I'm still trying to figure out what to do... (*-_-)

Trillian sucks. I stopped using it last year because it started giving me errors. But yet you have to upgrade to the Pro version because almost all of the servers in the old version are blocked..

MSN, AOHell, and Yahoo blocked (and keep trying to block) Trillian from logging on to their servers.

I don't even use ICQ anymore..I've never used Yahoo. But anyway Pocket, for IRC in Trillian..

Server name: irc.chat4all.org (it's actually on Trillian's server list, too)
Port: 6668
Nickname: (the first name you want)
Alternate: (The one Trill will use if the first is used by someone else)
Username: Doesn't matter, just shows up in the whois
User info: Shows up in the whois..you can put something witty there if you'd like

Don't enable IDENT server..well, it shouldn't be enabled by default. Then check the next tab..that says Perform Buffer. Nothing is typed in there correct?

You can add /join #mmpc in there though, and you'll auto connect to the chat.

It worked for me (after I changed the port to 6668 that is).

Trillian works for me on all the IM services. But yeah, the ones Hollow mentioned try to block 3rd party clients from connecting. But there's always fixes so it works, so as long as you keep up-to-date with patches, you'll be fine.
I personally don't like ICQ's program, but that's just me. You need any other help, you already have my ICQ.

Yeah, but you don't even get to use MSN 6.0+ which totally sucks. Trillion also takes up some MB probably. I mean it allows 5 IM programs. Surely it must be a huge file like Photoshop.

Trillian was smaller than I expected but it kept logging me off msn and apparently according to my msn friends, it wasn't even giving them the messages I was sending.

I uninstalled Trillian and installed msn so now I have 2 IM programs installed but I don't go on msn that often...

While Yahoo worked rahter well for me, the best messanger Ive found is AIM. The problem being that AOL itself sucks the big one. So what can a guy like you do? No idea...Im still working on that one myself. But rest assured that once I know I clue you in.;)

I only use AIM, not because I like it, but because it is the most widely used and the first one I got. I don't really care that much for instant messaging myself. I've personally seen ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN myself, but I didn't care for any of them.

If I were you, I wouldn't use MSN. It's not because of the messaging or the service, but because of security. Apparently, it's terrible.

Bah, so far my favorite IM service is MSN. I only use AIM when MSN is down, and I use IRC everytime I'm on the computer at home. I stopped using ICQ in high school. Mainly 'cuz everyone I knew stopped coming, so I had no need to use it...And it takes a lot of space compared to MSN or AIM.

I stopped using ICQ when they added 10 million banner ads to the bottom of the message screens.
