Welcome everyone to the second full-scale oekaki contest! This event in taking place to celebrate the ninth year on the web for the Mega Man PC Website: Dr. Cossack's Lab.

Unlike the mini-contests that took place over the last year, this is the real thing: ratings based on creativity and artwork quality, judging, and Mega Man collectibles to win! This is a direct follow-up to the previous contest hosted on this board in 2005, which received 18 entries. Read on for the details.

The pictures will be judged on the quality of the art as well as the originality of the composition. An action or emotional scene is more interesting than a simple character profile shot, and your picture will be rated on that point. To give you more room to express yourself, the applet's canvas size has been expanded to 600 x 600 pixels.

Unlike the 2005 edition, you now have access to the full power of the resume feature. As a result, you can spread out your drawing over the full month if you wish, without having to worry about a web browser or computer crash.

The entries will be kept private until the end of the contest. As such, a member can't influence the others or claim to have it's ideas stolen. This way, you are free to enter at the beginning or end of the month without any worries.

A theme is imposed for this contest. The keyword? Crossover. This is very open-ended, as the word can be taken in many, many ways. Here are some examples:

  • An X-era Hunter becoming a Maverick (thus crossing over to the other side)
  • A human pictured as a robot (ending up with the opposite status)
  • A known NetNavi pictured along with your fan character (blending the limits between canon and non-canon)
  • A reaverbot browsing the radio waves (mixing series)
  • A meeting between the two blue heroes Mega Man and Sonic (including elements from another game series entirely)
  • A robot master being president of the United States (stepping over the boundary between reality and fiction)

You don't have to include two characters or more: it's up to you to decide on that point. If the crossover link is not obvious enough, then by all means, explain to us why you made that choice! Of course, you need to have a somewhat strong link to the Mega Man series.

To further differenciate this competition from the mini-contest formula, judges will rate your pictures on a score from 1 to 10. They will also be able to leave some feedback for each picture if they so desire. The comments will be anonymized when displayed on the results' page.

The prizes are described in details in the prizes page, linked at the left. They include the Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works art book, Mega Man Battle Network collectibles, PC games, and more!

To begin drawing an entry, simply head to the main drawing applets. There is no separate page for this contest. HOWEVER! On the picture submission page, you must select the "Submit to contest" tab and enter your information there. If you fail to do so, your entry won't be counted!

This contest runs from May 1st to May 31, at midnight (Eastern Time). Entries sent after this will not be able to be submitted to the contest: they'll have to go on the main oekaki board and will not be accepted as valid entries. Judging will start after this point, and we're hoping to have the results published within a few days.

Do your best!
