Artist's comment: ... Deadlines are not friendly
I've been working on this piece for a few days now (love that resume tool). At first, I had all kinds of ideas for a cross over:
Net navi meeting original version, three or four megamans on screen... but then i decided, "Why not Capcom vs Capcom?"
This went through three ideas. First, X vs Ryu... though, it looked... kind off, it was supposed to be the two flying at each other, hadouken in one hand, and a gun in the other... But it came off as way to fanartish... and I can't draw an action scene with a mouse to save my life. The second one I might pick up some day was Light in his Ryu uniform and Roll as Chun Li... then I just thought, "Why not a young maid robot fighting a big muscle dude?"
So... after a few tests, I came to this... though... that one tab beside the resume, that "Contest" one... yeah, that's gone. Thought I had until the end of the 31'st... oh well, just a few hours to late.
Note by Dr. Cossack: This picture was submitted before the contest deadline, although the board wouldn't accept it due to a bug. It's a valid entry!
Feedback from the judges:
#1 (rating: 8): Definitely like this one, but the background seems a little busy with such a dynamic foreground like this.
#2 (rating: 8): What a bright, happy-looking picture we have here! The shading method you used gives it a lot of depth: Roll's dress is clearly flowing with her movement, for example.
I'd have toned down the background a little bit, if I was in your place. The blue is a nice choice and contrasts very well with both of our fighters. However, the texture is a bit too apparent, especially against Roll's hair.
#3 (rating: 8): I am loving this. The look on Roll's face is so priceless, and Ryu just looks annoyed. The positioning is very good, and I like the colored lineart. I do feel the background is a bit lacking, though.
Artist's comment: ...why I stopped drawing here. I drew too much Megaman/Mr Driller crossover images...
Boy, this took a bit of time. But, just in time for me to catch a few hours of sleep before I have to go to work... ^^;
I guess I'm too late for the contest since I didn't see the option to submit this as an entry. It's cool. Consider this picture as "I'M NOT DEAD YET!" picture.
Note by Dr. Cossack: This picture was submitted before the contest deadline, although the board wouldn't accept it due to a bug. It's a valid entry!
Feedback from the judges:
#1 (rating: 10): This is such a cute picture and I really can't see any noticeable flaws except for mine as I'm unfamiliar with Mr Driller.
#2 (rating: 7): Those wide heads always remind me of Katamari Damacy, although I know what your original intent is. While I haven't played any of the Mr. Driller games, I can recognize it's style, and I think that you merged it very well with our ever-popular Blue Bomber. It's an interesting cross-over selection since that series is probably not the first thing to come in the mind of most poeple here!
Pink, yellow, green, blue, and red! The wide outlines against Mega Man and Rush make them stand out clearly while allowing them to share the same coloring style as the background. It's a nice effect!
#3 (rating: 7): That's so cute! I love seeing Megaman and Rush in this style. You did a nice job on it, too. It makes me want them as plushies.
Artist's comment: And Mega Man and Locket Man are here to prove that! For my entry for the contest, I decided to go with the crossover between existing characters and fan characters. It gave me an excuse to draw Locket Man, who's name is a play on Engrish, as seen in many Capcom translations.
I really hate how the background came out. That tornado looks like cat vomit... but, hey, I did it fast. Wish me luck!
Feedback from the judges:
#1 (rating: 8): Tornadoes are definitely not easy to draw, but the whole background works pretty well!
#2 (rating: 7): The tornado itself looks fine to me, and I'd have said that it reminds me of chocolate instead of cat vomit. On the other hand, the ground effect looks somewhat like a huge mudslide instead of free-flowing clouds. I believe that's because it looks solid, instead of an always-moving mass of air.
Mega Man's pose is solid, and Locket Man looks ready to jump into the action. The transparent fire beam effect is cool, although I'd have expected it to glow a bit more. I don't think that Air Man will win this fight!
#3 (rating: 8): My cat's vomit never looked like that... Anyway, this is very flashy. I like your coloring style, as always, and the fact that you put effort into a real background. You did a good job of giving the city real depth, too.
Artist's comment: I've had this idea in my head for a while, and thought it would work best as an entry for the contest~
Basically, it is me, or rather, my character summoning her 'persona', which I thought should be modeled after Maverick Zero in his X1 armor. I had to change his hair around a bit to make it look more like a Persona, so I modeled it after the ZX cutscenes where the hair just jets out.
It is supposed to look like Zero is being summoned, but I still think the trail looks really odd..
Game crossover: Zero and My OC in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
Enjoy~!
Feedback from the judges:
#1 (rating: 7): Very nice composition but I'm not sure about the "persona" trail either.
#2 (rating: 7): Zero sure looks menacing, here. The red eyes carry an evil vibe, and the straight-out hair makes him look quite menacing. The summoning effect works as the two characters are standing in a line while the dark vs light grey color pattern avoids any confusion.
As you pointed out, the trail does looks a bit odd. Because of it's placement, it's not easily seen that it connects to Zero's torso. Also, Zero's right hand seems to be stuck at a somewhat odd angle compared to his left one.
#3 (rating: 6): Definitely a good crossover idea. Your shading is looking good, though you seem to lack a bit of highlighting. Perhaps if the trail had a bit of transparency to it, it would have helped a bit?

Artist's comment: There! Just in time!

I'm on my break now and didn't take spring session, so I have time to go on oekaki and stuff!
I did a fan character crossover in a surreal environment! So I should introduce the characters and who owns them...
Mia and Persephone
My characters
Mia is the little reploid girl on the center with blue hair; Persephone is the little reploid girl on the right with green hair and a flower on her head.
I designed Mia almost a decade ago when I was just twelve. She has gone through quite a few redesigns over the years actually, and some of you may have noticed that.
Persephone was designed four years ago. I haven't done any art of her since...well, until now. She's probably my most detailed character. lol
"Holly"
Hollow's character...or herself. Whichever.
The voluptuous bunny girl beside Mia. Holly is, in my opinion, one of the oldest and original IOekaki characters, whether as a fan character for Mega Man or not. I'm not saying Hollow is old or anything! Don't get me wrong! XD
I always base Holly's personality on Hollow's (which makes sense really - it's essentially her). Just awesome! XD
Fruit Tree(?)
One of Kia's fan characters
The girl with pink hair, just behind Persephone. Another senior and original character found during the early years of IOekaki; unfortunately, Kia stopped drawing her since. It's too bad. ;--;
I personally like the character. Her outfit is sexy yet tasteful.
Unity.EXE
Doc's Megaman.EXE fan character
It's really nice that the sparse collection of the doc's oekaki has an original fan character in it! Unity.EXE's design is sleek and clean. The details are not over-the-top like many quickly-done fan characters I see out there. She's the girl beside Fruit Tree.
Kochi(?)
Unclear Destiny's fan character
Kochi is the little reploid girl in the very back that looks like a strawberry. I still remember drawing a pic of Unclear's character a while back. Kochi is really cute; she looks like a strawberry! Sorry I forgot her name, Unclear Destiny!
I guess I should explain what's going on in the drawing, but it's really open to personal interpretation. If you do have your own interpretation, please share it with all of us!
Here, Holly's supposed to be mentoring Mia on how to troll unsuspecting noobs on Interordi. The mask that Holly is carrying represents Hollow's ambiguous gender online. She is crushing her left high-heel shoe because she's telling Mia how she loves crushing the souls of 12-year-old noobs on the Interordi message board or anywhere else.
The other four girls on the right are looking at the azaleas that's on the bottom of the pic. While Persephone has a good view, the other three try to peek behind her.
Anyways, that's all I have to say. I can't wait to see the results!
Feedback from the judges:
#1 (rating: 8): Oh my goodness, this is an explosion of fan characters!
I love the set-up-- the red flowers in the foreground really attracts my attention. However, I'm just a little confused with the sunflower field (it feels like there's not enough flowers but yet at the same time, too many flowers would have overwhelmed the picture!)
#2 (rating: 10): This is a great example of what can be done with a 600 x 600 canvas: a large, colorful background; many characters without giving the picture a "cramped" look; and some sort of depth as the characters don't appear to be stuck in a 2D world.
This must have taken quite a bit of research time to put together, considering that some of the characters haven't been seen in years. This earns you some big points on creativity! That's definitely an upside of being around the community for so long.
#3 (rating: 7): Very cute! I love how you compiled several people's characters into one picture. The idea of Holly teaching an innocent mind how to noob hunt is frightening! I will say, Holly's proportions look a little odd to me. Not as if she's overly curvaceous, but that her legs are perhaps on a bit of a smaller scale than the rest of her body.
