After seeing a community come together around the idea of X9, I had a bit of hope for the series. However, I've finally realized that I love the series for completely different reasons than the majority of the fan community. Today's new fans are the type that like Axl and just want more games in the same vein as X7 and X8. I don't want to sound cold for saying it, but I really dislike these fans and what the series has/will become.

Around the time I started playing the X series seriously, I was also reading the works of Isaac Asimov. Asimov's works deal with the place of machines in society, and the X series uses that as an underlying story element. This theme gradually faded, and we were left with "Sigma's back again" stories. In short, Capcom could have made a very meaningful series, but they chose to milk it instead.

My biggest problem with the path the series has taken is that there is no closure whatsoever. Dr. Light still appears in capsules, Sigma never dies, and nobody seems to remember Dr. Cain. Things that once had significance to the story have become lazy deus ex machnia to justify the loose plot of another sequel.

What I am proposing is a fan-initiative to create a work that finally gives us closure, even if it's not official. It could be an anime, a game, or a manga, with manga being the most feasible possibility. The most important goal is to have a definite beginning and ending. No sequels, no remakes, and no side-stories.

If the work is to provide closure, it can't follow the official story. The official story has become too convoluted and directionless, so it would be necessary to take several creative liberties.

The work would begin with the death of Mega Man. Since Mega Man isn't around or even remembered in 21XX, it's pretty obvious that he either fell in combat or was retired. My suggestion is that after finally defeating Wily, he is too wounded to escape the exploding Skull Castle. Thus, Mega Man dies because it was his duty to protect humanity.

The work could end in one of two possibilities. The first possibility is that Sigma is defeated, peace is restored, and X lives a normal life, whatever a normal life is for a robot with free will. The second possibility is that X dies. X dies fighting Sigma, because he chooses to.

Other changes include Light designing X to be peaceful, not giving him weapons or armor. Why hope that he doesn't have to fight, yet give him the most powerful weapon possible? Let Cain do that after the maverick outbreaks, and X asks for it, echoing Rock's decision. Zero still enters his sleep after everything, and the Zero series happens. All the characters are still there, but they're written in to the entire story, not just single parts. Repliforce has a background story, most likely to end whatever war is going on when X is found.


I know this sounds a bit odd, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who needs to see the story finished and put to rest. If I could find one artist to illustrate the whole thing, then it's possible. If I could find an artist, a writer, and a web designer, that would be perfect.

I can see what your saying about the new X fans. It seems that most new fans of Megaman were brought upon the world due to the entire Battle Network Games and the NT anime a few years back. I for one can say I beat the EXE bandwaggon a few years before. Now before I move one I would like to say that I like Axl because I have always been a fan of the impulsive child hanging around smart leaders concept. Over the years since I joined this site and with the absance of the X games that fandom has died off a slight bit.

Now as far as what your saying about how we should begin it,I say we should start it off that way but still leave a bit of mystery such as not knowing what he said before he died,if in fact he did die. Have something like capcom did with the end of the zero games and have bits of armor left scaterd about. Conecting both the Megaman and Zero series I feel is the hardest part becaouse you have to do it in a type of fasion that will please most fans. While the X series itself should be the straight to dead facts that intergrate the major characters in a non repetative way.
