actually, the 31st is the release date at gamestop. It sells for 30$,which is a good price. I'm getting black ace, I like the crosses more, and seeing that there is relatively no storyline diff. between versions...

Oh, it arrives at about noon where i live.

I haven't been following much the news on this game.

I'll pick it up for sure, especially since it looks like the battle system actually has some new features this time around. I can't say that I'm very enthusiastic, but it should be fun while it lasts.

Stop whining and making biased judgements off a single ONE LINE REVIEW.

It feels more EXE-ish. em beings are more or less navis now, with human interaction and battling contests.

Everything was polished over pretty well and the stack system makes the current system a bit more interesting.

Brotherbands are also fleshed out quite a bit more.

I could really care less about you saying that I'm whining when from what I have seen and heard it is exactly the same game as the first two.

And at the same time I have people who hate the Megaman Star Force series say "wow this is a really cool game."

And as for the "same game" argument, just curious....how many Battle Network games did you buy? Because they were pretty similar across the board.

The only thing remotely similar is the battle system, but the noise+stacked chips system adds a bit of depth, not to mention the fact that the battle elements have been balanced a bit (shield can no longer be spammed)

The rest is completely different- even a minor sprite rehaul. Being able to transform ANYWHERE is awesome.

I definetly agree with you on the stack system. Personally, I think the brotherbands have always been nothing more than Capcom money-whoring by trying to force people's friends to buy the games so they could have the damn things.

Honestly, it is starting to feel more like EXE in the way that you mentioned, which to me feels terrible. When I started with SF, I actually appreciated that not everyone and their grandma had EMs (although the excuse for the battle cards existing was bollocks to say the least). It made the player actually feel unique. With EXE, I spent half the damn game saying, "What makes Megaman so damn special? He's just code like every other navi out there." When SF first began, I actually felt like Megaman was special for once just because he was one of a select few aliens that came from space. Now, with all the EMs popping up, I get the same feeling of "Why is this guy special again?"

Don't get me wrong; I liked EXE; they were great for car trips and that sort of thing. But when I heard about SF, I honestly hoped for something different. Like pretty much every other fan out there, I was tired of EXE; six games with multiple versions was enough for me. When I first played SF, it played like a dumbed-down EXE to me, but I actually liked that. EXE was just becoming a hodge podge of folder restrictions, various methods of getting new abilities, and obvious attempts to make changes to a game without having to do much more than a new paint job. I hoped SF would avoid this by sticking to its roots and only fixing the broken parts of the game, but the battle system is now becoming outdated. With all the new ideas, they need to come up with something a little more advanced at this point, because it won't be long before we have about 8 different systems to manage on the same 'meh' system. It was good at first, but you have to change more for the next one, Capcom.

1: stack system can go both ways. Personally I like the idea of sacrificing a stacked card for a support card or purposely using cards around it to be able to use it next turn to add a bit to choosing other than "HURDUR FILL DECK WITH MEGAS RECEIVE VICTORY" I always brotherband with friends so again, any kind of upgrade there is awesome for me.

On your second point, I can agree that everyone having their own wizard loses some uniqueness, yet the important element persists in the form of only a select few can continue to EM Wave Change. Wizards have gone mainstream but the uniqueness of Geo/ Omega-xis has not.

Overall I have to say it's DEFINATELY the best in the trilogy, and while it is "more of the same" it is definately one of the most DRASTIC upgrades in-between games in the BN/ SF sets.

Also RD I got Red Joker.

Best game in the series by miles and miles and miles.

I was REALLY wound up in the ending, where I stopped thinking "the final boss is close" to "I MUST MAKE SURE GEO GETS HOME TO HIS FRIENDS ;-;" The ending is actually really emotional compared to other Megaman (Not bn, but MEGAMAN as a franchise) games in general. I've always felt more sympathy for Geo since I had a Dad who also died when I was young, so that probably has something to do with it.

Regardless, this is by far the "BN 3" of the series, and the twist at the end actually has me anticipating game four.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
having Kelvin actually being a part of the family will definately be interesting if the series continues.

I actually prefer not starting out as anyone special, and having to work my way up to legendary hero status, rather than being an automatic "chosen one". I thought that was the appeal of the original MegaRockMan series: A weak but adaptable robot beats all the specialists. When the hero is built up to be some advanced new prototype or the final survivor of a bygone golden age, then of course he has an advantage that lets him win in the end, and that just doesn't seem as interesting to me.

Couldn't you argue though that the same thing happened in BN when you actually met Tadashi (Was that Lan's dad's name?) in person? It didn't change much other than giving a slightly less contrived plot device than just magically getting the e-mail from dad with any parts you need. Rather you got them in person. Personally, I can't see Capcom using him for much more than that in this case.

I really don't think so. Unlike Lan, Geo's dad had been assumed dead for...what was it...5-7 years? I would imagine there would be quite a bit more communication and character building after these two were re-united.

Random thought: they really made some things most interesting and varied this time around.

I was exploring a new area in the game as Mega Man, fighting viruses at random to get new chips. I went into a CC system, found a blue crystal, then stepped out to return to the main wave road. However, the music was different, it had something of an heavy aura about it. As I was asking myself "What's going on, this isn't even part of the main plot", the WARNING WARNING WARNING alarm started ringing... and led me into a battle with the "boss fight" transition. I then ended up facing an Omega version of a boss which V2 I didn't even encouter yet! I quickly went from "That is so cool and unexpected!" to "I'm so screwed!"... this thing has 3000 HP!

Well, off to get deleted...

EDIT: Whaa...? I lost the fight, of course, since 400 HP vs 3000 isn't exactly balanced. I did put up a good fight: I got that opponent down to 1586. However, instead of kicking me off to the Game Over screen, it simply returned me to the wave road with 1 HP, and the normal music is back... Consider me blown away.

I've defeated the final boss of the main story yesterday. I haven't started on the obligatory post-game quest yet.

I've got to say that this is my favorite out of the 3 Star Force games. The pacing has been improved (there are no real dull moments), the battle system finally gets close to the variety we had in the best Battle Network games (about time), and the characters are always fun to watch interacting with each other.

I'm impressed with the amount of custom sprites that have been created. From the moment of Geo jumping into the water and getting back out, from Mega Man's wide-open eyes and falling to his knees at one specific moment, Hope's breakdown and crying on the floor at WAZA, and finally Geo and Omega-Xis' greeting at the end of the game, they finally decided to create new animations for the important moments instead of simply reusing what they had.

Plot-wise, I like the fact that there isn't as much as a reset between each game outside of Geo losing his battle cards. He saved the world twice; random people will highlight that by saying that "Mega Man is the only one who can do this!". This is a huge contrast from the Battle Network series, where after saving the world three times you'd get plenty of people saying "he's just a child, what can he do?" That was definitely nice, and it has me hopeful for any future game that might get produced. I also like how some unexpected things happened. When King was thrown in the Noise Wave by Heartless, it looked like the classic moment where the villain is defeated and might only show up again as a random sidequest... I jumped when he broke the party at WAZA by saying "Ho ho ho ho ho, I'm not done yet!"

With that said,

Spoiler (click to toggle)
if they want to end the series right here (excluding Operate Shooting Star), they've got their main plot points resolved. Kelvin is back, the fate of pretty much everyone is accounted for, and there are no major threads still hanging. It isn't as clear-cut as Battle Network 6's ending, but it's solid enough yet also allows sequels.

Overall, I'm pleased. There are periods of time where I didn't want to put the game down, and that's saying something as I usually get tired of the random battles rather fast and just HAVE to put it down. I'll be looking forward to the post-game quest... and to fight people online! Friend code is in my signature!

I don't know why, but I just can't get into the Starforce series, but I loved the Battle Network Series. I think it's probably the new battle system. Maybe I'll check it out.
