There is no hope left in man.
Well, enjoy being hated Capcom.
News posted. I'll personally comment on this later.
Damn you, Capcom!

Damn, Inafune left, and MML3 and Mega Man Universe are cancelled? I hope that all these events are not leading up to an eventual death of the Blue Bomber.
I'm not surprised that this was cancelled, but I sure am disappointed.
So does this mean we can officially kiss chances of X9 and ZX3 goodbye?
Nice picture edit. Unfortunately, it's rather easy to duplicate 4chan's layout to make it say whatever we want in a screenshot...
Besides, putting the troll face on GregaMan is totally unfair. He was hired by Capcom specifically for this project, and it's very possible that he's out of a job now. He might very well be the one, out of all of us, who has the most to lose over this.

I doubt its legitimacy, primarily because there seems to be nothing for Capcom to gain from "scamming" in such a way. After all the money they've sunk into the costs of development and promotion, even hiring at least one new employee for the project itself, they'd have to expect a greater return on that effort to be worth their while. I just don't see how that would even be possible. If they honestly thought there was enough interest from mass amounts of people who would buy a 3DS just for that one game, it doesn't make sense NOT to produce that game. It would be a guaranteed success. And I don't perceive that's ever how Capcom felt about the project.
Still, Legends 3 was the primary motivator for me to get a 3DS... which I didn't actually do. Was going to treat myself and get that and the Prototype for my birthday, but when it got delayed, I decided to hold on to the money instead in case of emergency, and just wait until I could get both at once. And now... Well, as it stands, I'll still just be weighing the choice of purchase from future 3DS titles. I would have bought it straight away just for the Prototype. Now, I can wait.
I've waited a day to think this over.
Ultimately, I think that this is a crushing blow to the fanbase. Of course, games get cancelled once in a while. I've long made peace with the fact that Mega Man Mania will never see the light of day. At the same time, a second major cancellation in a row doesn't tell me anything positive about the future of the franchise, or the strength of the fanbase.
What especially irks me is the level of involvment that Capcom asked from the fans. "Vote on this", "design that", "give us ideas", all for nothing. They built the hype in what I thought was a very effective way to reach not only the base, but possibly expand it through word-of-mouth. Had I been in charge, I wouldn't have gone that far unless I was certain that the project was greenlit. We're not only back to step one, it's clear that some people will drop off the series entirely, making future games even harder to sell properly.
You know that I'm not a Legends fan, I've been clear on that. Yet, I was dead set on getting the Prototype since it looked fun, and I was actually considering a purchase of the full game if I liked the final result. It's gone, so be it. I'm more concerned about the franchise as a whole. There's nothing to look forward to where it matters: games.
I'm afraid to say that we are in another dark age for the series, much like how 1997-2000 went. We've been in it for a while already, but it's all too obvious now. Those who were active during that time will remember how precious few games were released in English, and how most of the early Mega Man fansites closed over time. The process has been underway for a while.

The whole Devroom process ensured that a lot of fans who got to participate in making the game really cared about its outcome. This on top of the many already-passionate long-time fans who had been waiting for the next installment of that series was a really excellent marketing move, I thought.
Which of course, all backfired when they canceled the game the way they did. And now they've got fans spamming their Unity blogs, forums and facebook pages in protest. Which I honestly think is great, and is a much better form of protest than DDoS attacks or hacking attempts or even physical violence which some have threatened but I doubt will amount to anything. I really hope those childish but peaceful protests drive deep that the cancellation was a mistake. However, I don't expect these forms of loud-presence internet protesting will carry on for too long, and that sort of makes me sad. There's even a chance that they'll announce something Mega Man related, like putting X or Roll in the next MvC, or expressing interest in having Mega Man appear in Smash Bros, or even just hinting at X9, and then the fanbase will start to forget in anticipation of the next thing. Which honestly may be what Capcom needs to do as a company trying to cool down its angry customers, but I personally would like to see the cancellation of this project hold bigger consequence than a week's worth of angry ranting and us not getting a new Mega Man game this year through the first part of 2012. I'm not sure what I'd like to see as the final outcome. Saving the game would be great, though I imagine highly unlikely. Consolation prize... Maybe a Legends Complete Works book and soundtrack? I don't know. I'm not sure I have one. I want my enthusiasm back!
"Quote from GregaMan
This is the second Mega Man game cancelled this year, what does this mean for the future of the Mega Man Franchise?
A. Mega Man is still an important franchise within Capcom’s portfolio and we will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series"
Hmm??? I don't want to doubt this, but...

And there's more stupid stuff like this! Incredible. I'm quite honestly stumped on how misguided they are!
Did they expect only the people who joined the Dev Room to buy the game? I sure as heck hope not! I don't have a Capcom-Unity account, so no Dev Room for me, but I was part of the group able to be convinced to purchase it. There are people who never visit the publisher's websites either, and then there are the random people who buy games based on ads or pretty packaging...
Nuts. Just NUTS.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. This one's a gem:
I was thinking last night that this whole deal was like watching a train crash in slow motion. I was wrong. This is like watching a fuel train crash in slow motion, with each fuel tank exploding one after the other, dealing more and more damage. It's beautiful, in a way.
I'm saving screenshots of these posts. If, someday, I put together a wall featuring "stupid ideas and concepts over history", I'll have to dedicate a corner to this.

<_<
Why must there be stupid people?
Sounds like Capcom is threatening to kick people out of ComicCon for even mentioning Mega Man around them.
Cap Euro's been all apologies of late. Which is what they have to do, I mean, what else can they do? Say "Yes, it is you fan's fault, and I stand by that statement in the unemployment line!" But the more they put their foot in their mouths the more publicity the Legends 3 revival movement reaches... and really, it will need a ton of publicity.
EDIT: About the comic con Mega ban... I wish there was some solid proof already. Well, if it's true anyway. Not saying I wish it to be true, just saying that if it is I want to get outraged already! But my higher judgment is calling me back until more facts are in.

I think I understand the idea that Capcom is trying to communicate. But holy shit does that PR guy need to go.
I mean, really, the execution of said statements is horrendous. Is it too much to ask that the people writing statements to the community have a modicum of decency and tact?
You know, maybe it's better that we didn't get ML3. I'm starting to worry that it might have been awful.
I wonder if this is a case of someone not being able to handle properly Twitter's limit of 140 characters. The excuses posted since do seem to point out that it was an extremely poor choice of words instead of a direct attack on the fanbase. Talk about a PR disaster...

Capcom's denying any strong-arm of cosplayers. Looks like more trolling of Legends 3 fans? I wonder what else we'll be hearing about tomorrow...
At last, damage control from the US team! There are no Mega Man bans at Comic-Con, or anything similar.

To clarify, I meant that 4-chan is trolling Legends 3 fans, not Capcom. Sorry if the way I stated it didn't make sense. Yesterday "Scam", today "comic-con", tomorrow, who knows.
Thing is, I almost believed it this time, so I guess my emotions are getting the better of me. I should probably ease away from this stuff for a while, like HeatMan did, before I go mad.
