That's true, and I thought about that at first, but I don't think it really changes things at the end. If the display wasn't available, people would join, see no one, then leave; the window of opportunity to meet someone else at random would be very small.

I once thought of doing similar linked to the oekaki board, but considering that the community of artists around here is basically dead in the water, I'm not convinced it'd gain a lot of traction. No visual imagery was posted in the Fan Work forum in over a year save for YZ's stuff, the oekaki board is a zombie, and the last time I received FanArt, George W. Bush was president of the United States. I don't want to sound like a downer here, but it doesn't seem that we have a lot of people willing to contribute pretty drawings at the moment.
That does give me an idea, though... I found it found when we sat in the chatroom a few weeks ago to listen to those new Rockman music albums simultaneously. Something similar could be done where I would stream a set of official and fan remixes and allow people to listen and comment in the chat, or even request specific tracks. That could work, I think.

A
lot of things. Everything on this site, for one. E-mails and video calls are musts at this point. Wikipedia and news sources are visited pretty much daily. Online documentation on programming projects tends to be more useful and faster to go through than the paper variety. I still connect to many IMs whenever I remind myself to do so, and I'll often be found online on Xfire and Steam. I do a bit of social networking, as on Tumblr, but I much prefer the format of message boards and the like (I'm not active on many, though). Oh, and gaming of course. Multiplayer gaming on Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, Age of Empires and others never gets old!

I'm fine with the current chatroom so long as people start using it again, but if you do go for an alternative, please don't make it Facebook-based. I don't have a Facebook account, and God willing, I'll keep it that way.
Mark my words: I'd rather shut down all user interaction on this website rather than being forced to integrate it unto Facebook. You might want to read
my thoughts on the integration of social networks.
