Since Hollow probably is still giving his family member the care they need, i'll take this call.

Okay, so let me get this straight, you like Iris and She rules, and screw Hollow? Oh, AND Reploid Hunter Iris is one of the best fancomics ever?

I'll bullet these because I don't want to damage your brain with a paragraph.

-You give no reason as to your like of Iris other than, "She rules!"

-You never show what statement drove you to write down, "Screw you HollowTorment" Which if avoided could have spawned an intelligent discussion between you and he, whenever it is he returns.

I hope you two are very happy together... with her bipolarness, and her complete ignorance of what actually happens in a war.

Sorry Iris, I guess war isn't about Unicorns crapping rainbows.

Next!

I'm totally looking out for your best interests here. But personally, I wouldn't. But that's only because Hollow gets really mean when (s)he puts away a few drinks. I still have bruises there.

Plus "Maverick Hunter Iris" is one of the best fancomics ever made!

Highly debatable. For instance, I prefer most of the other comics on that site. Except the Sakurai Diaries one, it's well made but I just don't really enjoy it for some reason.

Wait no, I still actually like it better than Reploid Hunter Iris.

But anyways, I think Iris is great. At first I was annoyed by her, she was in the way alot.. But she just wanted to get two morons to stop fighting each other. There's no harm in that.

I think they said in the japanese sourcebooks that Iris and Colonel had two halves of the same chip or something crazy like that.. And she went crazy, attacked Zero as a side effect or something.. I'll have to ask my crazy Zero and Iris obsessed friend.

It's sad that she was in the crappiest X game ever though.

I never had a chance to play as Zero (My mom took my X Collection) so my opinion basically come second-hand.

Iris? A woman who Zero can't let go of, and she never really loved him.

Yes, THAT Hardman. This is the new and improved one.

Ew I don't visit that forum anymore. The fanboys make me violently ill over there.

Now Jecht-Striker on DA is a pretty cool dude (eh doesn't afraid of anything) that draws Iris and Zero alot, I could always ask him.

I always thought it was funny that Zero just happens upon Iris in the aftermath of the Sky Lagoon crash and then changes his game up to "I came to rescue her." Seriously, he has no idea he's gonna run into her, then he tells Colonel that's what he's all about.

I liked Iris as a character, but she doesn't really outshine any of the other characters that were introduced specifically to be killed off in that game. Or any other X-game for that matter. I never really got the vibe from their dialogue that they were in love either, so it was kinda weird how she professes her love to Zero when she dies. In the same breath she pretty much wishes death and famine to all humanity, so I dunno how innocent she is either.

It's the opposite, actually. Iris and Colonel are the two halves of the perfect combat reploid. Iris by herself isn't bipolar, but the mixed reploid thing totally would be!

Looking back, this concept made more sense in Battle Network 6...

I thought that's why she flips out though, because Colonel gets killed, and it's like half of herself kicking the bucket.

Close, but not quite. She goes nuts because she absorbs Colonel's essence (that purple gem), which makes that combat reploid whole again... instabilities and all.

Granted, if your own brother had been killed a few hours earlier, you might feel aggressive too!

... Personally, I feel so uninterested in Iris that it's really a wonder she gets discussed at all.

She was literally introduced to us out of the blue and promptly died throughout the course of a SINGLE game. After which, we never ever hear her name again.

Capcom really tried to squeeze her into our hearts by making her the Zero love-interest, but she just didn't have any staying power, in my opinion.

To me, she was just another Girl of the Week.

I heard she made a bunch of appearances in manga or something? I dunno. I don't read those (not that I wouldn't, mind you).

So, do I love her? Do I hate her? Neither. I just don't really care...

Actually, Iris shows up as a memory in Zero's ending in X5. And then in the prequel Xtreme 2. :) I don't know about the mangas, however.

Keep in mind that it was standard for the X series up to that point to introduce characters then kill them off before the end of the game. I very clearly remember the shock I had when I first viewed X5's ending with that scene of Signas, Alia and Douglas in front of the viewscreen discussing the events that just happened. My first thought was "Oh wait, that's right, those guys are still alive! They didn't kill them!! Continuity!!!"

Even fucking Inafune killed off Dr Cain, the only human that had any speaking role in the series, the only scientist figure around that was relatable, with that stupid PSP remake.

Humans and robots/reploids attempting to coexist was the original premise of the series. Goddammit Inafune.

Well, I was being a bit exaggerating when I said "we never hear her name again", but y'know what I mean. X3

And, yeah. That's exactly the point. She was such a minor character that I don't feel like I can feel either way about her. The same goes for all the others.

The only time such a minor character gets remembered is when they turn out to be a really badass boss character.

Granted, you did fight Iris (SPOI-nawwww), but I dunno... Her boss sprite was just a retool of the Falcon ride-armor and I guess just didn't really impress upon me as unique to her.

As an example, I remember Bit and Byte. Those guys were neat, and I like them. And I guess GATE fits in this category too, and he's pretty much my favorite. Got the golden invincibility armor with the heroic cape-thing goin' on...

Gate was badass indeed. He didn't have to be huge, he didn't need to merge in a large suit of armor, he simply powered up then took you on. The controls of that battle were tricky, with that large pit of doom and all, but it's concept and visuals were really neat.

The Iris battle, on the other hand, was underwhelming. She puts on the armor, then does nothing but slowly go toward you and FIRING HER LAZAR once in a while. I expected more out of that.

To be fair, Gate's Stages were Frustratingly, Control-Bitingly, TV-Smashingly hard.

So, bragging that Gate was easier is kind-of DUH.

So, really, you're still admitting Gate is hard. So there.

Truer words never spoken. I STILL can't get through the first stage (the one with that aggravatingly hard cell boss) without the Shadow Armor, which is the absolute worst armor to use against the boss. I think I only made it through there once in the Blade Armor...
