First off, let me first explain why I am doing this...well...simply put, I just recently got adobe photoshop, and have been tinkering with it for about 4 hours or so, and came up with an avatar and banner. This was also made so I can get some C&C, since I am a Photoshop newb, and need to start practicing with different tools.

First off, avatar:

I will be coming back to this...Time taken...50-60 minutes.

and second, the banner:

Time taken...around 3 hours, mainly since I was working with the different lassos to get Jack cut out.

And thirdly:The help

If you look closely at the avatar, you'll notice three lines to the right. Inside those lines are supposed to be transparent, but I can't figure out how to make that work, since the transparent checkers show instead of the background...if anyone can tell me how to do this in Photoshop Elements 4.0, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Well, I have Photoshop 7.0, so things might be different, but in general, if the checkers bother you so much, why not just set a layer under the picture that's white? Then you won't see them. But either way, they wouldn't be visible in the finished product- just in Photoshop. One thing, though- you might want to consider finding a better picture. That one's kinda murky and not the best quality.

I REALLY like the banner, though! That's a great picture of him for it. XD
