Here's that one thing that came into mind recently. I maintain a list of games that I possibly want to buy in the upcoming months, and I realized that I have about as many recent releases (in the past two years or so) listed that I have of previous generation software (Nintendo 64 and older). I also enjoy going back to the older games that I already own.

As such, do I play through another round of Mega Man 6, since it's so fun; or do I go out and purchase Mega Man ZX to try something new? Do I get Final Fantasy VI Advance to see the story once again, while I didn't even give Baten Kaitos a shot yet?

There's also the matter of playing games that provide near-infinite gameplay, compared to those that you'll play once and then move on. Should I go for another round of Age of Empires III, or do I move on with my playthrough of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney?

In my case, it's not a matter of money as much as it's a matter of time: I can't play them all, and I'm torn between going back to play games that I've owned for years, while new releases look very interesting as well. What do you do in such situations?

I kinda have the same problem... I have a bunch of games I've never played because something older always sounds more interesting... I guess I keep the ones I haven't played in reserve for such a time as I need them, lol. It's hard to give advice on that, though. I guess... go with what you're craving to play? lol.

thatīs something that goes around my mind too sometimes.

play Next Gen, or play Retro, sometimes i just donīt know.

right now iīm playing Final Fantasy VIII (8), while i have ordered Final Fantasy XII (12) yesterday. should arrive thursday or friday, and i donīt really know if iīll finish FFVIII first, or leave it and start a new adventure with FFXII once i have it.

i also enjoy playing Super Mario Bros or World more than Sunshine.

i started with Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 last week but might think of (finally) buying RCT 3, but i donīt know if itīs as good as RCT2 and not too difficult

these may not be the best examples, i know.

when i donīt know what to do with this, i just play another game until i finally know.

I always find playing a new game more interesting than playing one I played years ago. That's why when I get a new game, I play it almost instantly and drop whatever other game I was playing until then.

It's a vicious cycle...I know.

I can't really say I've gone too far back in time playing games....last 'old' game I played was....GO ON, GUESS. Kingdom Hearts (2001)

However, I find the linear and non-linear transition pretty easy nowadays, especially since the Wii is pretty much turning into a "Party Game" system, however the linear games coming out for it, as well as RPG's and action games with numerous things to unlock are also being included eventually.

Shhh! Now they're onto us!

Gee wiz, I usually give whatever I haven't tried a go, then go retro - see what's new and then look at how well it maintained the old formula (BN6 straight into BN2 - it's a scary transition.).

The irony of the whole thing is that I don't have time to start working on a time machine. ;) Anybody has a spare DeLorean to give me?

I tried going from Battle Network 4 to Battle Network 1 once... THAT is quite a transition. It doesn't look like much when you move forward from game to game, but jumping back a few numbers completely changes things around.

God...I have the same problem. Everyday I feel like I don't have enough time.

I want to get better at DMC3 yet I should be working on playing Halo 2 and try to get better at that because I should pay more attention to my newer games. Or Lost Planet would be even better.

However my newer games, Lost Planet, Halo, and Gears of War are fun, but I've grown bored. I want to play DMC3 yet I don't because I've done it before. I always want something new, always. Even after a day with a new game I'm ready for another.

Or I play one game over and over until I completely skin it of its value, Resident Evil 4 for example. Or I leave one to rot slowly, my Splinter Cells or Metal Arms: Glitch in the System.

I just can never make up my mind on when and what I want to play. Its either now and play for a few minutes, or later that turns to never. I still haven't beaten Metal Arms and I got it one week after release. I completely butchered resident Evil 4 of its value and I got it a year or so after it released.

I sometimes feel I'm not as great a gamer as I claim. I play games and have alot, but only a few have I beaten, most yes. All, no. I wish I could say I beat em all, but I can't. Only because I just don't focus on the old and jsut deal with the new, or, making things even more complicated, vise-versa.

I've done the BN4 to 1 transition too. SUCH a difference. o___o; Had me stop with BN1 after I had beaten half of the bosses.

I sometimes look back and find some games that I'd like to play, such as the older MM and MMX games, of which I have played only a few. (MMVII, MMX1, and some others only in part)

There are also some days where I think of just sitting down and going back to play some Pokémon Yellow.

Dig da Pika powers.

This topic raises an interesting question. Sadly my response is painfully simple: I play that which I feel most like playing. Qualities such as being an old favorite and being an interesting new experience weigh in equally in my mind, just at different intervals.

As for purchasing, I can't say I'd support buying an old favorite unless I already don't own a copy of it in some manner. Mind you, I have two copies of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and I play it on Street Fighter Alpha Anthology regularly...

I do, but you'll have to find a way to harness lightning to recharge it yourself.

I'm more for the retro stuff that you can play a million times and not get tired of it. The problem I'm facing is that my collection has grown over the years, and half of the games I have yet to finish. I've tried to stay current, but its too hard, expensive, and just not fun. I'm working on reviewing my entire collection, both old and new, on the same scale to compare how the old stuff stacks up to todays fare. So far, I've got the Twilight Princess review up, since thats the first recent game that I've enjoyed nearly as much as what I used to play. Check it out here.
