That's right, boys and girls. I finally decided to get back into drawing. No more wishing where I want my art to be. Rather, I'm focusing on the here and now, seeing what I can improve in the present tense.
As such, here I'll be posting some of my studies, though, certainly, I'd like to put in more effort into a piece I feel strongly about should one arise. At the moment, I'm currently using the grid method to increase my freehand skills. I do not plan to use this tool as a crutch for all of my artistic ventures, but I realize its value in developing one's skill.
Over time, I plan to increase the size of the squares used in the grid, relying more and more on my freehand abilities as time goes by. Considering my current need to produce fairly accurate work, I feel this is a good tradeoff. I also plan to experiment with other methods of drawing construction, like use of shapes, during these grid studies, especially as the squares grow larger.
Constructive critique is appreciated.
Grid Study #1-Turtle Cyber Elf
My first grid study is that of a Cyber Elf, from Mega Man Zero. All I know he's some fully evolved turtle thing, but he looked like a fun first subject. I need a thinner pen to ink with, because the one I have now doesn't cut it for such linework. I'm going to see if I can "ink" future pictures in Photoshop or something. The most obvious mistake is the toes, due more to my ink job rather than the pencil layout. Still, for a first study, I'm pleased enough to continue.
