Ah... no. He is definitely not a Rick Hunter. As you said Dranzer, he needs to be young. They are probably casting him because they want his Spiderman popularity to carry over to this "forgotten" anime.
I always liked Rick Hunter. I have his theme on my cell phone. XP

Bah Dog Fighter (Hikaru/Rick's theme in Macross) is superior.
Anyway, after the disaster that was Shadow Chronicles, I can't even phantom a Robotech live action.
