This chat room was basically the same thing that I've been making with the MetaGateX. It was a Japanese style chat room, in which you use avatars that were moving sprites...and you walked around a town talking to people.
April 30th 2008 1 AM..... .hack//Chat met its end...this created chaos and sadness for the many fans of this place. Despite this place only being a chat room, that's not how the fans thought of it. To them it was their home...a place of gathering... Before the chat died, many questioned whether they were even going to get online or not after the place was shut down. Some wanted to try and save the chat room, so they made groups in which they stood up for the room. Although their efforts later would be futile. Some focused on finding places to meet again. Others decided to move on and were never heard from again.
Take all of this in for a moment...be serious about it. I understand that to practically everyone here from a point of view, you may think that its stupid. But realize that this place meant a lot to those people. I myself miss that place a lot, I find myself thinking about it quite often. Bandai reasoned that they closed it down because of hackers, these "hackers" made it possible to walk on walls and areas you cant normally get to.
So in memory of .hack//Chat I say one last time: "Let's meet again sometime, in that place we love to go. The Root town of Mac Anu!"
.... .hack//kyat....we miss you dearly
