Looks fun, honestly.

Which is what we've said hopefully, albeit cautiously too, about ever next-gen Sonic game so far. How has that done so far? Pretty bad. (Secret Rings was average at best.)

Let's see what "next gen" Sonics we're talking about.

Sonic 06 WOULD have been fun if they hadn't released it half-finished. Sega forced it for the holiday season. We said it LOOKED fun because we assumed they you know, would release a completed game.

Secret Rings was at least playable. Moving backwards was a major drawback, however.

Unleashed was GREAT.

Yeah, that's a pretty horrible track record.

Don't give me that. Sonic's full of damn gimmicks that he doesn't need. And the failure of 06 is worth about five black marks on Sega's record, so good luck making THAT up.

Gimmicks doesn't make a game not fun.

And it should be noted that one game is one game regardless, and should never be considered as a bigger mark against a company than another.

It's Sonic in armor, hurhur. I notice his fur didn't even change color.

But the main Mario games tend to be COMPETENT and stay true to the core of Mario gameplay. If Sonic was able to do this, gimmicks would be acceptable once in a while.

As for Sonic in armor, he shall be called "Golden Chariot", in honor of Silver Chariot from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Go purchase Unleashed. Though honestly I'd recommend getting a PS3/ 360 first since those versions are superior.


The only thing that irks me so far when it comes to Black Knight is the fact that Sonic seems to stop when he collides with an enemy to swing. I think this may be optional though since there are other instances when he just runs on through.

I don't buy it. While it looks good, hasn't it been proven that Sega makes better trailers than video games? I mean seriously, remember the '06 trailer?

I've seen the Japanese gameplay in action. It looks pretty good. Also, have you tried Unleashed? Restored my faith in Sonic.

Yes, i've played it. The Sonic Portions are excellent and what I crave in a Sonic game. However, when i'm forced to play as the werehog for over half the game, then I have issues. If it would have been just the normal Sonic portions the whole game I would have praised the game, but Sega had to find a way to make it suck. Unleashed reminded me what Sonic could do, both good and bad. While I have some faith, I remain skeptical just because of the fact that I know someone in Sega came up with a way of making Unleashed suck (werehog); they can damn well come up with a way to make this suck if they try. However, if for once the game is as good as the trailer, i'll hop on the bandwagon.

Well on the topic of werehogs maybe I should bring this up

"The producer of Sonic and the Black Knight, Tetsu Katano, has had an interview with Videogamer.com about the upcoming game. In this exchange, mention of Sonic Unleashed was made, with Katano explaining that, should the idea for a sequel come about, that the Werehog may well make a return."

"In principle, I think that the users are always right. They’re the ones paying the money and playing the games. If they don’t enjoy it, they’re not going to buy it. I don’t think that producing the Werehog was a mistake per se, but there were a lot of things we could have done better if we had more time and resources.

If I think of any ideas then Sonic Unleashed 2 will be the time for that, so I don’t really have an answer for that. But you will see the Werehog again. As far as the trailer goes It does seem good but I think we have all learned over the years not to trust a sonic trailer.

The thing is after all the bad reviews on the werehogs part by fans and critics....why whould you want to bring him back?

The irony is delicious.

I make it a habit to ignore any and all "professional" reviews, for games or movies or music or whatever. The best judge for whether or not you like a game is to try it yourself.

Yeah I stopped even READING their reviews when they gave Unleashed a lower score than 06.

Gameplay, however, is a very unalterable matter. Sonic's voice sounds a little different now, and I think Griffith has finally nailed him. Arthur's voice could use....alot of work.

The gameplay however, looks great. The sword doesn't look like it slows you down at all, more or less a fancy homing attack. I'll be picking it up tomorrow.
