I used to post a bit more about my life a few years ago, but I slowed down as I felt that it wasn't really necessary. Besides, no one was really asking question, so I didn't feel like speaking up very much. In this case, though, I believe it's worth a mention.

Most, if not all of you, must be aware of the crisis that hit financial markets in the last weeks. Various stocks have been hit bad, people are running into problems getting loans, and several companies fear for the short and long-term well-being of their corporation. This also applies to the place I've been working at for more than a year. Now, because of these latest economic changes, and a decision by the higher-ups to remove some of the extra weight..

I lost my job.

Now, don't fear: I was immediately picked-up within the company for another position. As a result, there is no need to worry: I'm not looking for a job, I'm not about to run out of money, and I'm not about to close down the site. Still, the point stands: I lost my current position, which I love, because of the economic stuation.

The top direction decided to get rid of the team I was a part of, not because we were not competent or hard workers, but because they wanted to ship our job to a country offering lower salaries. However, the local management within our office didn't want to lose most of us, and they've made arrangements to move us somewhere else within the teams. As a result, I'll be working for a different group, under a new management, doing a different job, but hopefully everything will go as well as it did until now.

Now, some of you might be thinking "but you live in Canada, and I heard that the economy wasn't doing too badly there." That's true, but the company I work for is based in France: things haven't been so good there. I think that the management is overracting, especially since things already seem to be picking up in some areas, but I've got to deal with it.

So, in short, I'm safe. I lost a position that I liked very much, I don't really know about the new one yet, so I'll see in the coming days and weeks.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost the job you loved. I hope you will find something you like about your new job.

And as usual, if you ever need money to run the site, just set up a PayPal donation account or something. No doubt others and I would be glad to help.

Arrg! That sucks! Sorry, I'm not really sure what else to say other than the best of luck with your new job. I hope you like it as much or close to the other one.

Aww Doc!
That's terrible news. I'm so sorry to hear that.
:[

This economic crisis is a real pain. It's so hard to find a job and I really wanna help around my house, or at least stop borrowing money from my parents.

I'm happy that gas prices are down at least. Got to fill my tank up yesterday for only $20! [:
There's inflation everywhere though. :/
I mean even my school has upped prices, not the tuition of course (it's already $6,900 this year) but like dress down day, food, donation to homeless shelters.

Sometimes they make us pay though, and they make us sell calenders every year, $30 each! Nobody wants a calender. And they've been making us sell 4 every year but this year we need to sell 6! Think about that. Some people have 5 kids that go there. And if we don't sell them they get added to tuition.

Geez. But seriously I hope you find something you like at your new position. Sorry for ranting. XD

In the last few days, I learned that I'll keep on working at my current desk, even though I'm technically part of a new team. It will probably help me to settle in, since I really enjoy talking with the people in this group. Besides, my new team is right behind me, so it's not like I'm completely out of place.

Still, what a waste this seems to be. Why break a team that was running smoothly and was doing a good job overall?

Thanks for the support, people. It's appreciated. :)

Ah, I should have specified that this isn't directly a case of outsourcing: the workload was merely tranferred over to another of our offices, this time located in Argentina. We used to share the work, them getting some projects and us receiving the others. The top management decided that everything would be done over there, despite the fact that my former team usually got better results overall.
