~Tales of Mynthia~
An Original Tales RP

Nearly 3,000 years ago, on the world of Mynthia (mine-th-E-a) Dimitri, the Advocate of Death had been taking the lives of many long before their time had come, and was bringing great famine upon the world rather than merely keeping the balance between life and death, famine and abundance. Thus Dimitri’s counterpart came to him and tried to speak with him about changing his ways, but Dimitri wouldn’t listen. On that day the two greatest deities had a confrontation that would change the world. Gaia the Bringer of Life, and Dimitri the Advocate of Death, engaged in battle on the now barren lands of Juniper. Gaia was victorious, and he sealed Dimitri away in his own sword so that balance might return to Mynthia. However, with the Advocate of Death no longer able to perform his duties there was no death for weeks, no matter how sick or badly wounded one might be none could die. Therefore, Gaia took up Dimitri’s weapon, the Sword of Demise, and used its power as he saw fit. With the power of life and death, famine and abundance in his hands Gaia brought about an age of prosperity to all the lands and all the seas. This time of fortune lasted for many generations.

Nigh 3,000 years later Mynthia is stricken by famine, disease and decay that is spreading quickly across the countries and waters. As it was prophesied over a hundred years ago, Gaia has fallen victim to the power of Dimitri’s sword, and only by destroying the 8 Pillars of Light that restrain Gaia’s power can the world be saved. It was also said that when this grave time does come a group of warriors, chosen by the heavens, would travel the world and destroy the Pillars, thus saving Mynthia.

Will you be one such warrior who will search for the Eight Pillars of Light?

Will you be one who searches for a way to take Dimitri’s sword for yourself?

Will you choose a different path altogether? The choice is yours.
(For more information on the Tales series you should check out Aselia. BTW, the technology in this RP is the most like the Tales of the Abyss tech than any other.)

I'll now list some of the major cities and continents so you can get a bit of a feel for the world. Sizes will be listed below each location. Sizes for cities are from Tiny (like a village) to Large (about twice to three times the size of New York City), for continents they are Small (like France) to Large (like China and Russia).

** Krill - This continent is pretty much just one huge ice cube at the bottom of the world, like Antarctica. There isn't much to see here, unless you're on a field trip to see where the battle of Gaia & Dimitri took place.
Landmass: Small

** Ferron - Located in the Middle East, the lands of Ferron are largely ruled by the peaceful monarchy of the Cildrant Kingdom. There's a large range of land-types; everything from lush forests to dry deserts.
Landmass: Intermediate

** Luminous: - Located to the South West, this continent is almost completely under the rule of the Recto Empire, the more aggressive of the two major powers on Mynthia. Much of Luminous is desert lands, but there are some areas toward the northern peak that are mostly green lands.
Landmass: Large

* Juniper - The barren lands of Juniper, located at the very bottom of the planet. Juniper was once an icy city on the small continent of Krill. However, after the great battle 3,000 years ago it's nothing but a wasteland.
Landmass: Medium sized

* Belloft - The Holy City, located in the Cildrant Kingdom (which is ruled by King Eugene Ark III) in the Middle East on the continent of Ferron. The Grand Cathedral of Gaia, which stands at over 50 stories high, is in the center of this city.
Landmass: Intermediate

* Ome - The capital of Cildrant is also the technology capital of the world. Here the Wing Ship (a vessel capable of flight and water travel) was perfected.
Landmass: Intermediate.

* Atleane - This bay side city is home to some of the best fish markets on Mynthia, and is the only place where you can buy the very rare and delicious raw or cooked Black Shark fin. Atleane is on the South West continent of Luminous and is part of the Recto Empire.
Landmass: Medium

* Nova - The capital city of Luminous and location of the Recto Empire's palace. This city is filled with some of the best weapon and armor shops in the world, and is also notorious for pick-pockets.
Landmass: Large
------------------------------------------------------------

It was sunrise in the city of Ome, and in the Roth House young master Vincent was just waking up. The silver-haired young man opened his eyes and slowly sat up in his bed. He sighed tiredly, and then threw the covers off of him before swinging around and placing his feet on the floor.

"The same dream... Every night I have that dream." He muttered to himself. Vincent stood up, rising to his full height of 5'11" as he stretched out a little. "I wonder if Wilson can make any sense of it." Vince thought aloud before moving over to his wardrobe and opening it up. He pulled out a tight fitting black undershirt, his usual black and silver-trimmed pants, and his matching high-cut tailed jacket. He buttoned the two purple gem buttons on the front, and then went to the mirror to examine himself. "Not too bad." He said with a grin. "Although," he started as he looked to his bare feet. "Some shoes and socks might be nice." So, he slipped on his socks, and then put his armor-like boots on and then exited his room.

"Good morning, young Master Vincent." A maid said pleasantly as she passed by.
"G'Morning!" He replied as he stepped out into the courtyard. "Any word from my brother?"
"Which one, sir?" The maid asked as she came to a halt and faced Vincent.
"Virgil. He said he was going to return within two weeks; it's been over three already." Vincent sounded just a little worried. He knew it wasn't too uncommon for Virgil to be gone longer than anticipated, and he could certainly take care of himself, but with the world in its current state Vince couldn't help but wonder if he was alright.
"No, young Master Vincent." The maid said with a small bow. "I haven't heard anything."
"Thanks. You can go." Vincent said plainly, and then moved down the middle of the courtyard. He opened the large wooden door that led to the main hall, and then started for the front door.

"Vincent!" A young male voice called out.
Vincent turned and looked at the 12-year-old boy, who resembled him greatly. "What is it Vick?" He asked, sounding a little annoyed.
"You were about to leave, weren't you?" Vick asked with a mischievous grin. "You know pops doesn't want us leaving the Manor right now."
"Can it." He said firmly. "I'm just going over to Yuli's house. She wasn't feeling well yesterday, so I wanna check on her."
Vick chuckled. "You've got a crush on her, don't you?" He asked loudly, his smile broadening.
"Hey! Keep it down, Victor." Vincent responded as he took a step toward his little brother. "Now listen, I'm not going to be gone for long, but if anyone asks for me just tell them you last saw me going toward the library, okay?"
"You go to the library?" He asked mockingly. "That's a laugh!"
"Hey, I read... Some times. Look, just do it, alright?"
"Okay." Victor said calmly. "Let me know how she was when you get back."
"Now who has the crush?" Vince said with a crooked grin.
"Yeah. So?" The young boy replied plainly.
Vincent's eyes widened with surprise upon hearing his little brother's words. "Uh... you realize she's five years older than you, right?"
"That won't matter once I'm twenty." Vick replied with an impish grin.
"You're so weird." The teen said as he shook his head. Without another word he went out the front door and onto the yellow brick streets of Ome.

The rain was pouring down hard and heavily, beating down on the fabric of the tent. The rain had been going on for a while now, and Virgil blamed the climate around those parts for it. Finding yourself in land exactly between the sea and the mountains often meant that the clouds were blown against those mountains and released their rain before crossing them. Which therefore caused the area to be quite wet and rainy; they had had a hard time to cross through a swamp in the past three days. If it hadn't been for those Imperials... he would have been home long now already! There would not have been any need to take a different route, especially since they had ended up in combat anyway.

"May they rest in peace." Virgil murmured absent-mindedly, of course referring to two of his own men whom had been slain in the melee before they could escape. He hadn't liked that, but the enemy had outnumbered them with a five times greater force. At least they had managed to bring it down to four times greater. Still, it meant they were outnumbered and that their enemy could be going at them for longer than they could be going back at those same enemies.

Scouts had been sent out as soon as they had gotten out of the swamp. They shouldn't be too far away from the capital--two days on an average horse perhaps, and his horse was no pushover. Perhaps he should have ridden along... well, actually, he had! He had to get back home as soon as he could, and so he had left the best man he knew amongst his men in charge and taken two others and the best horses they had for the ride. "We should be arriving sometime after sunset if I am correct." He called out over his shoulder at the other two men, who nodded in response. I'm coming home. He thought.

The young man walked by the other mansions that lined the street, and the multiple people that were going about their daily routines. Most of the people in this area were Counts, Colonels in the army, second cousins to the Princess, but above all wealthy. Vincent's father was not a Count, and he was certainly no militant. No, Mr. Roth was a businessman, who owned a string of Inns all over Ferron.

After passing a few mansions he came to the palace. The palace was a truly grand place, standing so high that it's tallest tower touched the clouds. The exterior was white and had some ledges and balconies on it that were seemingly made from gold. The front doors were well over 20-feet tall, and in front of them stood two heavily armored guards, clad in white and gold. When Vincent approached the entrance he was stopped by the guards, as usual.

"Halt!" Said the guard to his right. "State your name and business here."
"Vincent Alexander Stephanos Roth. I am here to see Princess Yulianna." He replied regally.
"The Princess is ill."
"I'm aware of that." Vince replied, not giving the guard a second to add more. "I'm here to check on her, like I always do, Jerek."
"Sorry, Vincent. It's standard procedure, you know that." The guard said with an unseen smile. "Go on in, but make it short, alright?"
"Thanks Jerek." He said with a grin, and then went in after the guards opened the doors for him.

All the decor inside the palace was just as bright and shimmering as the exterior, if not more. The framed portraits on the walls had frames of fine metals, every other one being made of silver, and each one before and after was made of gold. Where Vincent was standing was the main hall, which had a high ceiling that went nigh 200-feet up. To each side of Vince about 25-feet away from him there were wooden doors. The young man moved to the right door and once through he stepped onto a thick red carpet that covered all of the floors. Vincent made a beeline for Yuli's room, and for the first time in a while he knocked twice and then waited for an answer.

"Yes? Who is it?" Yuli's young feminine voice said from the other side of the door, it being a little lower than usual.
"It's Vincent!" He replied. "May I come in?"
"Uhm! Just a second!" She responded, sounding a little panicked. After a moment of commotion Yuli yelled from inside the room to Vince again. "Come in!"
Young Master Roth entered the room slowly, glancing around just a little trying to figure out exactly what she was doing a few seconds ago without having to ask her anything. "Hey. How are you feeling?"
"I've got a little cold, but otherwise I'm just fine." Yuli replied pleasantly as she sat there in her bed, her white night robe messily wrapped around her petite form. "Thank you for coming to visit me."
"Not a problem." Vince said kindly as he approached her notably large bed.
"Oh! I meant to ask yesterday: have you heard from Virgil yet?"
"No. Not yet." He replied commonly. "But, I'm sure he'll make it back fine by tomorrow; he always does." Vincent added with a cockeyed smile.

The weather was good, better than on any of the other days of the past week, and the ground was even and not gotten soppy wet from the rain from before. That combined with the fact that Virgil was a great rider and was saddled atop the best horse their group had had to offer assured that by the evening he already could see the house--or rather, the mansion--of his father and family. His stern-faced look softened for a moment at the sight of it and he glanced at the other two men with him. "We'll be home soon. We can't rest for long, however. Corbito, you are to rise with the dawn and leave for the royal palace to inform them of what has happened, just to be sure it will not be overlooked. The Empire may actually be preparing for war for all we know."

Twisting back in the saddle he gave a tug on the reins and dug his heels in the steed's sides with a small cry, urging it on and making it leap forth and get into a gallop to get home all the sooner. He reached behind him for his spear that he had tied to the saddle and raised it up, the small banner he had tied to it unfolding as the wind caught hold of it. In the light of the setting sun anyone looking in his direction would no doubt know who would be coming.

After a few moments of visiting with Yuli, Vincent left the palace, knowing a guard or nurse would be in soon to tell him he had to leave anyways. Once outside the palace he started back toward his home when a tall man, about 6'2" approached him. He was not a very intimidating figure, in fact he was actually a bit soothing to be around. The tall man was just a little on the thin side, he had shoulder length blond hair, and wore a green coat that very much resembled a lab coat. Underneath the coat he had on a green long-sleeved shirt with a green button down vest trimmed with gold and matching slacks. He wore some eyeglasses with fairly small frames over his gray eyes.

"Vincent," he said as he came toward the teen. "Have you heard?" He asked with a smile.
"Heard...?" Vincent asked as he halted before the man. "Heard what, Wilson?"
"Virgil has been spotted approaching gates." Wilson replied pleasantly.
"Oh yeah?" He said with barely a hint of happiness. "Well, thanks for the update."
"Certainly." Wilson said with a nod. There was a short moment of silence as Vince just stood there not saying a word. "Is there...something you wish say, Vincent?"
"Well..." He started, a little hesitant about discussing the matter he had on his mind out on the street. "Are you busy at the moment?"
"Only a little. But if it's important go right ahead."
"No. That's alright. I'll come talk with you later, when you're free." Vince said with a smile, and then moved past Wilson. "See ya later, Wilson!"
"Good day, Vincent!" He said to the young man as he dashed off toward his mansion. "I wonder...if he has started dreaming again." He thought aloud, and then went along his way.

Vincent reached his home in a matter of seconds and halted at the front door. "I wonder if he's back yet." He said to himself and then opened the door and walked through.
