How do I set my computer up to port-forward? I'm tired of my logging onto online games kills the speeds of everyone I play with, but I can't seem to get my computer to port-forward now that it has a Vista OS.

...Doesn't your router port forward and not your OS? Unless I missed something.

Well yeah, something like that, but the method to get it to port-forward appears to be different for each O.S.. For XP, I merely needed to put in my IP address into my browser and go from there. That doesn't work on Vista, though.

I don't have much experience with Windows Vista, but usually, the procedure should stay about the same.

For a port to be available for Internet use, there are usually two steps to be done:
- Open it on your firewall. This is usually a piece of software installed on your computer, which might block all access to a specific port.
- Forward it on the router. When a foreign connection attempts to call you through a specific port, the router needs to know to which computer of your computer the request is heading. That's when you setup a port forwarding to say "port 1653 should go to computer 192.168.0.2".
