More seriously though, I don't quite know what to make out of this yet. We'll learn more in the coming weeks, of course, but I'm curious how "3D" they can make the DS while keeping the system pocketable. I know that 3D is all the rage right now, but it shouldn't come at the price of the ease of use.
There's one thing I'm very happy to hear about: this unit is backwards compatible with current DS games. No matter if this is another mere update to the DS, or a brand new system, at least we'll have a good library of games from the get-go!
The 3DS is supposed to succeed the DS series, so it sounds like it's going to be a new system altogether, just with backwards compatibility.

Seriously, name one good 3-d video game.
Still can't?
That's because THERE ARE NONE.
Right. It has nothing to do with 3D being a technology that we as a society are only just beginning to exploit in a truly workable form.
(Yes, I know we've had "3D" in some form since the 50s, but what's being used in, say, Avatar is only a recent invention.)

And here's why, no one wants to go home and strap on some goofy looking glasses to play video games that hurt their eyes after an hour just so that they can have one cheap gimmick effect every 30 minutes.
And if you had read Nintendo's press release, you would have noticed in the first paragraph--in bold letters, no less--the part where Nintendo explicitly says that the games "
can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses".
