Free? These guys are nuts. They could've sold it on Steam for 5-10$ and they've sold tons of copies on the fact alone that it's a Valve game. They really don't act as you'd expect from most companies.

Looking at the gameplay trailer made me think on how it'd be nice to get more sci-fi themed games that don't rely on shooting aliens in the face with big guns. Some variety would be enjoyable, too!

Fun fact: No one has a title in valve. Everyone works on whatever it is they want to do. Doug Lombardi admitted that for press interviews he just makes up good-sounding titles for Valve employees. They really just do whatever they want. Plus, hey, giving away a game just because it's outside their norm must mean that style of work is working for them...really well.

"People with guns shooting aliens" is a tad cliche- but so is...well...every zombie plot ever. Valve knows how to play a cliche but add something new to it- I'm sure Alien Swarm will handle that fine.

Here's the beautiful thing about Valve. Because they've given such great deals and because we feel like we can trust them, the next thing they release could be a turd-in-a-box, and people would still be happy with Valve. Maybe not the product, but Valve has just that much goodwill stored up in their offices.
