So I've been noticing that when I don't use my Wii console for a while, it starts picking up strange habits. When it hasn't been used in a while, the case light around the CD slot begins a weird process in which it brightens to a point, flickers three times, then immediately goes dim before starting all over again. It does this constantly. I can unplug it to get it to stop, but after a while once its plugged back in, it starts doing it again.

As far as I can tell, this action is not dangerous to the console, and I've had no negative incidents happen since it started this. But I do want it to stop; it makes going to sleep a right pain in the ass and its driving my aunt up the wall as it makes it look like there's strobe lights going through my room.

So tell me: what is this process for? Why is it doing this? And how do I get it to knock it off?

Mine does that when I don't shut it off correctly. Is the light Orange? If it is, hold it in until it goes Red and that should stop it. It could also be WiiConnect 24, mine used to do that when WiiConnect was on. It could be multitudes of things, your light on the disc drive could be dying, or something is loose, etc etc.

The light was orange, yes. People need to stop making this weird "shut off twice" gimmick for consoles. Thanks for the help.

Maybe your console has an update available? Check out the Messages icon in the bottom right hand corner in the Wii's main menu to see.

I'd just like to add that leaving WiiConnect24 on is a very BAD idea. Your system will still run hot as it's connected to the internet while not in use, and this will eventually damage the innards of the console, causing display and picture problems in the form of pixels and specs in several places on the the screen, even all over the screen.

I learned this the hard way. Twice. So I'm just putting it out there for everyone to hear.

WiiConnect24 is pretty redundant anyways. You'll get any messages/updates etc. the next time you turn on the system anyways.

The thing is, I haven't been leaving it on-on, and I don't turn on WiiConnect24 anyway. It was just the standby mode, I guess.
