Some people have been going "wha wha, finally, now we NEED a new 3DS model with this built in! Modern games are unplayable without a second pad!"
Hear my words: if Nintendo releases a new 3DS, with a second circle pad, I will NOT get the games that require it as I won't upgrade. I can see it's use, but I never played any console game that really needed one (FPS and RTS titles belong on the PC).
I got the 3DS on launch day, fine.
I went through the period with close to no games, nice.
I saw the 80$ price drop go by, fine.
The ambassador program is neat, so I don't feel cheated.
However, if they release a new device so soon with new, required hardware, I'm skipping it over. Make it a peripheral, if need be, then I'll think about it.

Theoretically, Nintendo (not being Capcom) would make a periphial, then release a new model with it included. Ergo, you get circle pad 2 without buying a new unit. Oh, and halt production of 1-padded units.
And Nintendo has confirmed that Monster Hunter 4 is in development for the 3DS. Given the franchises popularity in Japan, expect this turnabout to be a huge system seller, assuming it stays exclusive.
Would be even nicer if DASH3 were still-- *gets shot*.
If you needed a proof that the second circle pad peripheral will be a rather minor thing, here it is: the attachment will be exclusive to Gamestop. Nintendo wouldn't limit themselves this way if they wanted most of their future games to use it.

YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME

Seems like Gamestop and Nintendo have been partnering up a lot
