Hackers accessed a Valve server containing the following information:

Encrypted and salted credit card numbers
Encrypted passwords (For the Steam Forums if I'm reading this right; Valve isn't forcing new Steam passwords, only new forum ones)
Game purchases
Billing addresses

No proof of credit card misuse right now, but the warning is out.

tl;dr hackers making this world a no-fun-allowed zone. At least it sounds like Valve has gone through greater measures to encrypt our information than a...certain other company. Just going to wait this out- at least Steam won't be going down for a month.

I'm not sure there's a specific fad related to video games. Air Miles was also hit ealier this year, along with a news source whose name I can't remember right now.

Its times like this Im glad Im the lazy type and never updated my card. I had lost my old debit card and then had it canceled and got a new one.
