I kept hearing great things about this game, and picked it up on a whim since it was only $5 during today's Steam Sale.
I can't believe I almost passed it up.
The fact that Minecraft beat it on almost every occasion for indie game of the year is almost CRIMINAL. It's an experience that feels polished and complete and probably one of my favorite games of 2011. And I'm saying this in 2012, so there's not even time to change my mind.
Bastion is an action-rpg where you play as a character simply titled "The Kid." You awaken in a world that has been destroyed by a catastrophic event, and the only hope you have of survival is to find and restore a sacred ground known as Bastion. You're constantly getting new weapons, and all of them are radically different from each other.
The game has an interesting narrative point. There is a very small cast of characters, but only one speaks. He acts as the narrator throughout your adventure, and constantly retells your actions and achievements as well as revealing backstory, like he was retelling an old folktale.
I paid $5 for the title, but odds are when you see this it'll be back to $15 on Steam. Do -NOT- let that stop you from getting it. The initial game took me 5 hours because I was rushing, and there's a new game+ that I have yet to even touch. After those are done, there's different modes with leaderboards, etc.
