Do animated shows actually benefit from the higher resolution, to the point that the price difference is worth it, or are the standard versions perfectly fine when using a good player?

What RD said. Regular format works just fine usually but if you have a 36 inch or larger television you're going to what HD, otherwise it looks like really bad quality. I've got a 56 inch TV and if I don't get super high quality, it looks like it needs to buffer.
