Apparently, Gabe Newell and J.J. Abrams are collaborating on a potential Portal / Half-Life movie project...

I wonder if this is a genuine partnership, or another instance of slapping a big name (Abrams) over a project just to get the word passed around, even if said big name doesn't do anything but provide a very limited amount of oversight. I'm not against the movie idea, but I'm really surprised to see that pop up all of a sudden!

Apparently the story of Half-Life one is "amazing" only in like the last 10 minutes of the game. I've bought this only in order to go to play portal, because of the portal mechanic. (Which of course was a lot more interesting/"cool" when I first decided I wanted to do Portal years ago.) This game of Half-Life is entirely boring, generic, annoying, and not to mention difficult-to-use controls with the camera not working and "instructions unclear" IRL. Apparently "until the last 10 minutes when something actually non-military-like happens."

Besides which, as stated, it is way too incredibly common to have some movie with some liked name used for the then-terrible movie. Did you know there is a live action movie of Fullmetal Alchemist with horrendously terrible English voice acting, not-so-terrible writing which could have been implemented with the same story and much of the same script but much better? A common theme over the past recent years.

Aside from, J.J. Abrams isn't the cool guy. He just starts with a 'J'. When I am thinking of this and saying, "Of course that movie will be good, to not be is impossible!". That's the wrong guy. It's Joss Whedon.
I don't think we can be excited over some Half-Life movie if nothing interesting and non-military happens until halfway through or nearly.

Besides... they probably won't have any cake.
