Despite Matt's punch, the sturdy wall took the blow soundly. However, it seemed as if the attack reverberated through the foyer. Silence fell, but it was soon shattered by a low, menacing growl, almost like a hiss.
The hair on R.D.'s neck stood up again, and he slowly turned around, looking about cautiously. "That can't be good," he muttered. He could see a faint movement up above, at the other end of the foyer. Whatever it was, it seemed to notice the group, as it launched through the air and hit the floor halfway through the foyer with a mighty crash. The pale light of Matt's orb illuminated the creature's face, and Alasea blanched.
It was a spider; the biggest spider she had ever seen, and it was larger than a tank. Its legs were long, thick, and powerful, covered in bristles and ending in slightly curved, cruel black spikes. Its abdomen was long, lithe, and muscular, and covered in a hard shell that sported alien designs and what seemed to be a strange, kanji-like symbol. Then it opened its eyes.
Unlike normal spiders, which had anywhere between four to eight eyes, this one only had two--two that glowed a frightening, malevolent reddish-orange. Its face was framed by six large mandibles that curved in a half-circle around a gaping mouth lined with thin, sharp teeth. A sickly fluid dripped from the mandibles. The World Eater spider demon took a cautious step forward, then reared back and shrieked.
