"Right," R.D. said, training his eye on Matt and Helena's location. "Stay here, I can find them quicker and I can track you to know where I have to go after this. You can also guard here, we don't need anything sneaking in on us."

R.D. looked at the bank briefly, then back down the street. "I can't detect any major lifesigns besides Matt and Helena's," he continued, "But I don't think we should rule out anything else being in the city."

Hugo glanced across the street once last time before raising his pickaxe slightly. "All right. Make it quick."

R.D. nodded and started off with a quick trot down the street. Quickly, his boot thrusters ignited and he began skating down the street at high speeds, easily weaving through the rubble and corners. He soon reached the building Matt and Helena were hopefully at, which proved to be a Japanese cuisine restaurant from the looks of it.

R.D. skidded to a stop outside the door and opened it, looking inside but finding no one in plain sight. "Hey Matt, Helena!" he shouted as he stepped, "Where the hell are you two?"

"In here!" Matt's voice shouted back, near what was probably the kitchen. "And guess what? I found AMERICAN food!"

R.D. walked over in the direction of Matt's voice, entering the kitchen. "Take what you want and let's go. We need to leave, and leave now," R.D. said as he entered, "We might have a problem."

"What is it?" Helena asked, as Matt was piling wrapped food into a cooler he had discovered.

"I found an insect," R.D. stated, "One like the kind we found on Khalis. So if those are already here, who's to say that the Ing aren't? Or another one of those giant spiders."

Matt frowned. "Shit. That's not good." Placing the last item of food-beef pattier still in their original wrapping-in the cooler, Matt stood and shut the fridge door quickly. "But where the fuck are we gonna stay? Sleeping outside of the city isn't a good idea."

"We'll have to stay at the bank, probably on the roof," R.D. said, letting the visor in his helmet retract, "Or anywhere else with a flat roof. I think I know a good way of getting us out of here if we can't hold them off."

At least, I hope it's a good way, he added silently, his mind on the two Chaos Emeralds he had with him.

"All right, then," Matt said. Closing the cooler lid, he stood, picking up the cooler by its handle. "Let's set up on the roof."

Helena was already moving toward the kitchen exit that connected with the main restaurant. "I'll check and see if the bank roof's flat!"

"See if Hugo's alright," R.D. told Helena before she left, "I left him there to keep an eye on things, and so we can find the bank once we return."

R.D. looked about the room a little before turning back to Matt. "Got everything we need?" he asked.

"Oh, crap, hold on," Matt said, just remembering something. "I gotta raid the fountain drinks for some Coke. I gotta see if there's some bottles, though."

"Make some bottles then. You're pretty good at making small things. And Alasea provided us with some as it is," R.D. said, "We just need to hurry in case this city's been compromised by Ziatoch already."

Matt set down the cooler. "All right, all right. Hold on." He held out his hands before him, as if grabbing onto am invisible ball. "Let me get them, and you go check on Helena."

R.D. nodded and left the building, catching up to Helena on the street. The visor on his helmet covered his face once more, and he began searching for possible threats in the area. "I hate it when cities are like this," he said to her, "Even though I don't have many memories of cities at all."

Helena smiled, reserved and distant. "I've never been to a city this size...but still, I wish this place wasn't so barren." Closing her eyes, she took a small breath in preparation, releasing it audibly. "I was just about to check the roof." Her brow furrowed as the edges of her wings broke flesh and pressed against her jacket, bringing familiar pain.

R.D. winced when he saw the wings trying to push through Helena's jacket, although his armor prevented the movement from being too pronounced. "I'm sure there's an easier way to transform," he said, "Most of the dragons here can take a human form, and they don't seem to feel pain when reverting back again."

He wasn't sure how he knew this, but R.D. was positive this was the truth. Perhaps he had gained more than Bahamut's power when he unlocked the Third Cipher on Lumiya.

Helena's shoulders moved foward as she bent foward slightly. Her teeth locked behind her closed lips, the pinions of her wings slid out of her jacket in one solid push. They unfolded in a snapping motion, revealing the full lengths of her draconic wingspan.

"...that'd...be nice," she said-though there was a small amount of effort behind her words due to her forced transformation, she had gotten better and used less energy than before. Standing straight again, she turned to face R.D., though her glance was just to the side, as if a bit embarassed, as her wings folded behind her. "...but I'm not a dragon of this world. I...don't really know what I am."

As if she had decided something, and gripped on to it with determination, her gaze focused on the boy before her. "But even if this power causes me pain, I'm going to use it to help you and everyone else, no matter what."

R.D. nodded at the girl's quiet determination and stepped back, allowing her room to take to the air. "I'll see you at the bank then," he said, readying his Phase Blade and readying himself to skate back to their makeshift camp. "Be careful."

Helena spread her wings. "I will." She bent at the knees, and with a mightly flap of her wings, she launched herself upwards, and began flying toward the roof of the bank.

R.D. watched the girl fly off before turning back to the restaurant and shouting, "You ready yet, Matt?"

A dark shape padded onto the roof of a nearby building, watching the armored teen with an amused white eye. It seemed to sit on haunches as it watched, unseen.

Matt placed the last improvised bottle of Coca-Cola in his cooler. Placing the lid back on top, he lifted the cooler again-heavier than last time, but nothing he couldn't handle. "I'm good!" he shouted, walking back out to the restaurant area.

"Let's go then," R.D. said, looking around. His scanner suddenly registered something, and the energy ring and pistons appeared on his right arm and he spun around, aiming at the edge of a particular building, seeing... nothing.

Whatever had been watching them on the rooftop was gone now, and R.D. lowered his arm, looking around slightly.

"Yeah, I think it's time we go."

"What?" Matt asked, his tone serious. As he exited the restaurant his eyes were scanning the area frantically, trying to find something. "What is it?"

"Something was here," R.D. said, "Just for a brief moment. But its gone now."

He swept the area with his eyes and scanner one last time, but found nothing.

"Let's get the hell out of here, shall we?"

Matt glanced toward a certain building and stared, as if he saw something, but didn't react otherwise. "...yeah. Let's go."

The two of them quickly made it back to the bank, able to find it easily when R.D. was able to track Hugo's unique energy signature. Now observing it more carefully, R.D. was thankful that it had a flat roof. "I'll meet you up top," he said to Matt, "I'll see if anything's following us."

R.D. stepped forward, hopped, and then leapt the entire three stories of the building and landed on the roof, aided with his armor's boot thrusters. The energy ring and pistons appeared on his arm again as he began scanning the entire area around them, holding his right arm out like it were a cannon weapon.

"Helena's up top," Hugo explained to Matt as he approached. "The roof's flat so we can camp on it."

"Good." Matt glanced around briefly, reaffirming the ruined city about him. "I don't like this, but it's the best chance we have for safety that I can think of."

Hugo humphed in partial amusement. "Safety isn't exactly a luxury we have." He turned, and began heading back toward the bank. "Come on, let's get set up."

"I'm comin'."

R.D. lowered his arm when he didn't see anything, and dismissed the armor. He continued to watch, however. "Sense anything?" he asked Helena.
