"Not on our own, no," R.D. said, sitting back. "That's why I asked the Dragons to approach those guys at the Black Mountain you told me about. Dargor and them. Relayia agreed to it."
After a few minutes, R.D. left out a breath and looked up at his friend. "I should get going," he told Alasea, causing her to frown slightly.
"So soon?" she asked, placing a hand on her hip.
R.D. nodded. "Something tells me I should leave as soon as possible."
"Alright then," Alasea said. "I hate to see you go so soon, but I won't stop you."
"Thanks."
A few minutes later, R.D. had returned from his room, his Phase Blades in their sheathes and the satchel Alasea had given him weeks before. He approached the doorway, where Alasea was waiting for him, an unreadable expression on her face. He stopped in front of her, and the two looked at each other for a second.
Suddenly, she pulled him into a hug. She had a bad feeling about his leaving this time. She felt him return the hug, and she said, "Be careful out there. North America is Carnax's territory. I'll let Colleen that you'll be in the area."
"I will," he replied, looking out the open door. She leaned up and kissed him on the cheek. Slowly, they parted, and Alasea watched as R.D. looked about outside before approaching Tamaran. The three Dragon Spirits were nowhere in sight. R.D. tossed up the red Chaos Emerald up into the air, and in a flash of light, he and the gigantic mecha dragon were gone.
===North America===
The wind was chilly, and loud as it swept through countless ruined buildings. The streets were cracked and broken, making transportation with conventional vehicles impossible. The sun, often obscured by overcast clouds, caused broken glass to gleam whenever it managed to pierce its rays through. Sometimes, the sound of crumbling concrete and metal could be heard in the distance. Other than that, there was silence in this dead city.
How long had he been walking? He wasn't sure. A couple hours, maybe. R.D. made sure to keep a wary eye on his surroundings, seeing how he was alone here in this blighted wasteland of the old civilization. For about an hour now, he had the feeling that something was watching. Waiting for him to slip up and pounce. It was creepy, and he didn't like it. The wind was blowing his overshirt around a bit, but he ignored it. All he could do was keep moving forward.
The hair stood up on the back of his neck, and R.D. immediately flung himself to the side, rolling across the asphalt as something black and glowing streaked bright at tremendous speeds. Coming out of the roll with a Phase Blade drawn and activated, R.D. stood as the black shape bounced off the wreckage of a destroyed van, onto a wall, another wall, and finally strike the street. Jagged shadow energy danced about as the creature loped a few steps on all fours. An insane grin was pulled back on a wolven face, and the beast stared with a single, glowing eye.
"Haaaaaaaaaaaaa."
R.D. stepped forward, holding the Phase Blade out. Green eyes glowed yellow as he glared at the monster. "Should've known it'd be you, Wulfe," he growled, taking the Phase Blade in both hands. The monster giggled.
"You haven't forgotten!" it cried out gleefully. All around him, gathering in the shadows of the buildings and inside their darkened interiors were hundreds of tiny, black creatures, each with staring white eyes. "Good. You haven't forgotten the Big Bad Wulfe."
"You'll wish you'd have forgotten about me," R.D. said. He suddenly rushed forward, the Phase Blade flashing outward again and again as he struck repeatedly at the apparition. Fluidly, the creature evaded the strikes, dancing backwards on two feet, his form suddenly changed. Catching the sword in his claws, Wulfe flung R.D. back and attacked, slashing with deadly claws. R.D. flipped back, bringing his sword up to bear and drawing the second one in the process. Looking up, he saw the monster gesturing in, and suddenly, hundreds of familiars were swarming out of the building, in a black horde. R.D. slammed the pommels of both swords together, combining them, and spinning them overhead.
The weapon flashed downwards, cleaving a number of the familiars in half and dispersing them as particles in the air. Stepping forward, bluish-white energy exploded around his left hand, and slammed his Godhand-encased fist down into the street, fracturing it while propelling himself upwards, out of the horde. Immediately Wulfe was upon him, slashing out with a single claw, and R.D. twisted in the air, spinning and lashing out with his foot and catching the monster in his back, knocking him hard into a building. The window and stone shattered upon impact, and R.D. used the momentum of the strike to propel himself to the opposite side of the street, onto a ledge. He flung himself off as a black streak of energy shot out of the building with an explosion of dust and rubble, Wulfe's claw cleaving apart the ledge and shattering it.
Spinning the Phase Lance in one hand as he descending, R.D. ripped into the horde of familiars as they rushed up at him. Landing on the street, he dashed down it, holding his left hand open, a sphere of fire burning in the gap. Spinning around once, he flung the burning orb at the horde, and it exploded into a trailing dragon's head made of fire. It smashed into the horde and exploded, wiping out the supports of the nearest building and causing it to slump forward towards the street.
There was a deafening rumble as the building began to collapse, scattering a massive cloud of dust as the familiars were buried. Something black burst out of the smoke, and R.D. barely got the Phase Lance up in time to block Wulfe's counterattack. He weaved in an out of the fast strikes, barely avoiding each. The Phase Lance slashed upwards, parrying a blow, and R.D. attacked again, striking rapidly, only for Wulfe's body to worm his way out of each attack. It was like a cobra fighting a mongoose--impossible to hit.
Wulfe suddenly leaped back, into the air, and his body transformed into spike-like tendrils of shadow energy, spearing down at R.D.. He threw himself out of the way, but one of them sliced past across his shoulder, cutting through the simple cloth and into his skin. Ignoring the pain, he counterattacked by pivoting and launching upwards, driving his knee into Wulfe's stomach. The monster howled and doubled over in pain, and R.D. shoved upwards, pushing him away while flipping. The beast landed on the ground at impossible speeds, and leaped back up, catching R.D. in the chin with a vicious uppercut.
Caught by surprise, R.D. and slammed into the street hard, the wind knocked out of him by the impact. Wulfe, wolven face split in a twisted, triumphant grin descended downwards, claws flashing. R.D. rolled out of the way, and Wulfe’s claws instead embedded into the asphalt. Lashing out with his foot, R.D. caught the deranged monster in the side, knocking him away. The amnesiac quickly pushed himself back up, seeing Wulfe quickly recovering from his strike.
R.D. grit his teeth in frustration. This guy had the advantage last time, too.

They ricocheted off each other repeatedly as the attacked upwards, bouncing between the two buildings and each other, swords against claws, steel against shadow ringing with each parried strike. Rocketing ahead, R.D. turned as Wulfe streaked at him, nothing more than a winged phantom with a wolf's psychotic face. Suddenly flaring, R.D.'s right-hand Phase Blade lashed downwards, cutting into Wulfe's right wing and shredding it apart. The beast immediately counterattacked by lashing out with multiple tendrils, cutting his left shoulder's sleeve and into the flesh beneath. Using it to draw near R.D., he slashed out with his right claw, only for both swords to block it before R.D. kicked off of the demon and shot off to a building ledge.
Turning around, R.D. was surprised to see Wulfe right on his tail, and the shadow monster's foot smashed into his chest, knocking him right off the ledge and onto another building down below. Landing on his feet, R.D. looked up at Wulfe as the demon howled in delight and fired a pair of spike-ended tendrils at him from his shoulders, striking the Phase Blades out of his hands, sending them down into the streets below. R.D. quickly backflipped off of the building, landing in an alleway on both feet. Within seconds, Wulfe was landing across from him, deeper into the alley.
R.D. was breathing hard, winded from their dragging fight. Wulfe, on the other hand, was practically dancing on his toes, with that infuriatingly smug grin on his wolven face. Suddenly, he rushed forward, and R.D.'s Godhand-encased fist smashed the ground, launching him up the building, with Wulfe hot on his trail. Turning to see his opponent, R.D. saw Wulfe shoot up higher than he did and flip over him, forcing him to turn around as Wulfe landed. Immediately, the tendrils lashed out and wrapped around R.D.'s waist, dragging him towards Wulfe's waiting claw.
R.D. quickly blocked the strike with his left forearm, retaliating with a hard punch at the beast's face using the opposite hand. Wulfe easily blocked the strike while pulling back his claw, and the force of the punch shoved the beast backwards, R.D. propelling them forward as the tendrils released him. His hand shot up in time to stop Wulfe's claw, and another uppercut knocked the beast high up into another alley between two other buildings, and R.D. raced after him. Wulfe steadied himself and raced up the side of the buildings, landing on the ledge.
The tables turned, as R.D. was there almost immediately afterwards, kicking off the side of the taller building and attacking with a flip kick, which was parried and avoided by the tireless demon. Righting himself immediately, R.D. lashed out again, and the two traded quick, furious blows as they struggled for the upper hand. Wulfe soon pivoted around R.D. and smashed him back against the wall, his claw shredding part of his overshirt in the process. He followed up by launching one of his tendrils from his shoulder, only for R.D. to jump over it. The second one shot out, and R.D. backhanded it away, grabbing onto a gash in the wall to steady himself.
"Let's finish this, Wulfe!" he cried, pushing off and spinning sideways in the air, lashing out with a flying spin kick. Wulfe howled and chambered his right arm back, stabbing his claw forward like a spear at R.D.'s leg. The sharp, shadowy claws tore into the leg of his pants and cut open his calf, and surprised by the sudden pain, R.D.'s attack fell short, and he found himself skidding on the rooftop, Wulfe racing backwards with a triumphant snarl on his face.
Wulfe's claw rose up, and flashed downwards for a killing stroke.
