Over the lands of Asia a great darkness moved like rushing water, blackening everything in sight. Soon, the darkness found its way to Japan, where madness was abundant.
"Sire!" Cora exclaimed as she flew up to her King's throne. "We've tried everything! Nothing is working! Something has a hold on them, and we are unable to break them loose!" She shouted over the booming sounds of war.
Gouki growled and lowered his head. ~What should I do?~ He asked himself mentally.
"Sire, I hate to say it, but perhaps we should cut our losses." The fire demon said in a somber tone. "Kill the infected and try to save the others."
Gouki looked to Major General Cora with a mixture of emotions. It was a cold-hearted idea, but at the same time he knew she was probably right. He hated to see his men slain by his own hand. But what choice did he have?
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, the King of the Fire Demons saw the darkness creeping onto the battlefield. One fire demon that had been corrupted turned black as coal, froze, and then the darkness seeped inside of him. The demon began to panic, and then a burst of shadow erupted from his chest, and out came a shadow-creature. The fire demon looked at the creature with much confusion.
"You have been cleansed." The shadow-creature said to the demon.
"Huh?" The demon responded, and then suddenly his memory came flooding back, and he remembered what the Corrupters had done to him. He held his head in pain for a moment before looking at the shadow-creature once more. "Thank you."
All over Japan this was happening; shadow-creatures became one with fire demons and cleansed them of the corruption Ziatoch's forces had put in them. Hundreds at a time were being turned back to their former selves, but still Gouki could not quite make sense of what was happening.
"Cora, investigate." Gouki ordered, but then suddenly a ninja of sorts appeared behind the female demon.
"That won't be necessary." Kazama stated, giving Cora a bit of a start. The demon moved away from him quickly, and got ready to battle. "Master Donovan has sent us to deal with the problem you are having with Ziatoch's Corrupters."
"Donovan...?" Gouki muttered in disbelief.
"Indeed. My Master is presently at Xastra's palace, defending it." Gen. Kazama stated plainly.
"I see... Cora, you are in charge during my absence." The massive Beast stated as he rose to his full height. "I must go to the Master's palace."
"I understand, Your Majesty. Gen. Kazama and I will handle things here." Cora said as she bowed to her King.
Without another word, Gouki became an enormous inferno and flew off toward Xastra's palace, leaving Cora & Kazama to deal with Japan.
"It's been a while, lady Cora. How have you been?" Gen. Kazama said rather pleasantly.
"That's General Cora to you...Yamato." The demoness replied frigidly up until she spoke his name, which she seemed to have a bit of trouble saying.
"Right..." Yamato said in a somewhat defeated tone as he looked away from her. "Sorry." An instant later the General was gone--vanished like a cloud of smoke.
Cora left soon after to give the newly cleansed and disoriented fire demons their orders.
Kuro was at the bottom floor of The Nexus, where the E.D.C. usually met. He walked toward the door to the meeting room quite calmly, his hands in his pockets. "Hello?!" He called out, his voice echoing in the infinitely large tower. The spirit fazed through the door, and stepped inside to find an angelic figure with blue hair. "Hey, you there... I'm looking for..." Kuro stopped suddenly when the woman turned around and smiled.
"I've been expecting you, Kuro." Serenade said kindly. "How's the afterlife treating you?"
"You know, I thought it'd be, I dunno...more restful." He said with a cockeyed grin. "Wait," he started, the smile leaving his face. "You were expecting me?"
"No, just wanted to see how you would react." The Supreme Light replied, and then giggle.
