It is an alternative operating system to Windows. It\'s probably 50 times more secure than Windows is, but you can\'t run standard Windows progs on it. I\'m getting ready to put it on my laptop to try it out:D
It does use a windows-like interface (well, at least Linux does). I *think* Unix is command line only (kinda like DOS, but with different syntax) I\'m new to Linux (this\'ll be the first time using it), so I can\'t go into detail about it.
I know there\'s some people who actually use it here, so wait & see if one of them answers.
There are a lot of things out there for Linux, I do know that. Check my site under Microsoft replacements, most of that stuff is good and cross-platform (windows, linux, macOSX)
You can download the RedHat9 CD Images, but you\'d need a CD burner and at LEAST a DSL connection (took me like 3-4 hours at around 80KB/Sec, it\'s 1.7 or so GB).

Looking for me elsewhere? Maybe look at my Fediverse account for some more-or-less random postings! If you're a gamer, check out my Osmium profile. I'm building that tool!
Dr. C is right, although, I have both.
Linux is a type of operating system. There are several types of Linux. Mandrake and Red Hat are but two. Mandrake is better for the home, and Red Hat for the buisness. It is much cooler than Microsoft Windoews, only most things are only compatible with Microsoft:madgo:.
Unix is the language it\'s written in.

suSE is best for beginners. Unlike Windows, where some things are unchangeable (like Internet Explorer, can\'t delete it) Linux lets you change whatever you want. It\'s all about you being in charge.
Unix was back in the days of MS-DOS.
Back in those days:
Unix: Most powerful, most expensive
Mac: In Between
Dos: Least powerful, cheapest.
Man I\'ve never seen Linux before. I\'ve ontly seen DOS (the original) and Windows (almsot all of them).
I was the bomb at DOS but Windows is so easy to use.
:madgo:I want to see linux:madgo:
And while we\'re passing along Linux sites, check out this one:

You can download any manner of Linux from here, and they have lots of info on it. Course if you\'re going to download it, you better have a really fast connection. At an average of 80KB/s, it took me about 4 hours I think.
[EDIT] Almost forgot, you also need a CD burner to use the ISOs

Yeah! PCWorld sells them!
Actually, SCO are being right basterds, at the moment. They\'re suing people for using bits of code which they say own the copyright, but IBM and others claim they don\'t because this code was free to use and everything when they copied them.l There were no copyrights on them.
Anyhow, Linux is better, also, because it\'s reletively cheap price. Microsoft is around £119 fo a single program! (Like Microsoft Publisher). Whereas, I think that the whole of Linux is around that much. If not, less.

Hey I herd there is a Windows emulator for Linux!!!. So you can play games that run on Windows with Linux!!.
There is also WINE which emulates Windows programs on Linux. That\'s another possibility.
