you can use the gods just not in tourneys
and they do have effects
obelisk if you have 2 monsters left after the summon you can sacrifice them and destroy all your opponents monsters and do 4000 lifepoints of damage to your opponent
slifer gains 1000 attack for every card in your hand and every time your opponent plays a monster slifer automatically attacks it and does 2000 damage to whatever mode it is in ra total attack points equal to the attack points of all the monsters needed to summon it and you can sacrifice all your lifepoints but 1 to add to ras attack
