Actually, both the original Megaman and Battle network are official. If you think about it, all the differences revolve around Dr Light/Hikari. IN Japanese, the word Light is \"Hikari\". So then comes the rest of the differences. Other then the name, the other difference is Dr Light is job. IN the original Megaman, he was a robotics expert (like Wiley in both the original and BN). In the Battle Networks, Dr Light specialized in networks, and instead of working with Wiley (which was impossible because they had seperate specialties) he competed with Wiley in friendly competition to get funding for his projects.
