Final Fantasy Online is a costly MMORPG, and in its youth there will be problems (as opposed to a game that\'s been out for years -- Everquest), but even FFO has its upsides.
For me, however, the experience was a bit disappointing, mainly for a few reasons:
Big world, little diversity. In a world filled with thousands upon thousands of citizens, they all look similar, and don\'t really differ much at all. A Galka will look like one of 8 Galka, always (gear and alt hair color excluded). Two characters of similar race, class and level (excluding gear) will always have the same stats, and a Ranger will always use a bow (as opposed to Everquest, where a Ranger can decently Melee).
The Community. I\'m not one to talk, since I was too shy and underconfident to lead my own parties, but I was too scared to lead, since most everyone was either an elitist, or just didn\'t get that this Final Fantasy wasn\'t like the others. How I mean, is that they think they know what they\'re doing, never having played an MMORPG, thinking it\'s like FF VII or something. As for elitists, they took from my experience, simply because if you weren\'t at the top of your ability, you got kicked from your current group (personal experience here). More waiting for a party (which can last up to three hours...). Valkurm Dunes constantly stayed crowded with these types, same with Qufim (two most popular levelling areas below 30).
Language Barrier. I\'m not saying this, trying to be racist or anything of the sort, but it\'s hard to have a decent conversation using a crappy auto-translator, when it has maybe ten percent of the phrases you need, and it takes about 40 minutes to make a simple phrase. It\'s cool that they brought everyone together, it just made it a bit tougher sometimes, simply for language differences.
Simply put, the game is great, it\'s the community. This is just my experience though, I\'m sure others haven\'t had these problems ^^;
