Hmmm... been a while since I've stopped by here! Not much has changed, so I guess I'll make one of the newest civilized conversations on our new games, Team of Colonel and Team of Protoman.

Now, for those of you who don't know, and I'll put it in spoilers just in case:

Spoiler (click to toggle)
The different souls available for for the two games are as follows:

ToC: KnightSoul, ShadowSoul, ToadSoul, TomahawkSoul, NumberSoul, and of course ColonelSoul.

ToP: MagnetSoul, NapalmSoul, SearchSoul, GyroSoul, MediSoul, and ProtoSoul.

Now, if you think about some of the things that these characters have in common (relative to the game they're in of course), you'll start to see something. KnightMan's toughest part in BN2 was his rock-hard defense, right? ShadowMan's evasion moves were also difficult to match. As to where in ToP, ProtoSoul's power in BN5 was a 2x multiplier for sword attacks, and NapalmMan from BN2 was one of the strongest enemies around!

This leads me to a semi-conclusion: Team of Colonel is meant for defenders who pull off the big combos when it counts, and Team of ProtoMan is designed for those who just love to slash and hack their way through the enemy. According to the way you play, you can determine how easy (or difficult) a time you'll have playing your new BN5 game.

That said, does anyone have anything to add that would contradict and / or agree with me? Just comments in general?

On a final note, I would like to acknoledge FlareMan, aka Jazz, for actually noticing this. I just sort of pointed it out here, since he didn't and he's made the observation a while ago. All credit for this "well that's interesting" news goes directly to him. So long as you're a decent role-player, check out his awesome site, BNU, which I've linked to in my sig! [/shamelessplug]

That seems semi plausible. However, Searchsoul doesn't fit the generalization you've offered of ToP; the main and only purpose people use it is to get a combo or PA established. Medi is also another support soul, and it's worth mentioning that Magnetman is the 'defense' aspect of ToP.

However, roughly the other half of the team souls are offensively oriented as you suggest; Gyro soul just yearns to be abused with the two times damage ability as an example.

Colonel's team does seem more 'passive' as you suggested; Shadowsoul's Omnishoes and movement speed increase, or Toadsoul's diving ability, Number's 10 chips custom window, and so on. That doesn't go to say that colonel is lacking support for combos and the like however.

...I hope I can get Battle Network 5 today...-_-;

Anyways, I'm looking towards the Colonel version, mostly because it features

, my favorite navi. But on another note, it looks like your list does not include the original elemental navis, Aquaman, Fireman, etc. that are in the original trailer. Did they not appear in the game?

Anyways, I'm usually a hack and slasher, but I'll sacrafice my Protosoul for

So many spoilers.

Oh yeah, see the original trailer on this page: http://www.gamespot.com/gba/rpg/megamanbattlenetwork5teamofblues/media.html?gcst=mmbn5tc_gf_gba1_061705.asx

Zaleon: Yes, I agree for the most part. However, SearchSoul is target-elemental, yes? That means it ignores things like invis with it's attacks; in other words, an excellent way to just blast away continuously at those defense-oriented enemies with ToC.

I make no exuses for Medi, I guess she and MagnetMan are there to somewhat balance out the otherwise biased gameplay or something. I honestly don't know.

AimMan: Well, the way I see it, there's one soul for each particular element. Fire and Elec are taken care of by

MagnetMan and NapalmMan, both in ToP

while Aqua and Wood are both covered by

Heck, I guess I'll just list out the elements that each Soul corresponds to, if I can...

Proto = Sword
Napalm = Fire
Gyro = Air
Magnet = Elec
Medi = Recover
Search = Target
Colonel = Neutral, I guess?
Number = +/-
Knight = Piercing? Cracking? I dunno.
Toad = Aqua
Tomahawk = Wood
Shadow = Invis

I think that's it. So, anything else to add? :D

I got it now. Mehehe. Got my game yesterday, although my data's already been deleted once.:sick:

Bah. Nothing intelligent to add.

I guess

in Colonel Team isn't very passive either, eh? Not that I've examined that much into it, as I've yet to aquire it, but from what I've learned, it sounds very power-oriented. Although I guess both games must have one

Here's how I see the relationship, keeping in mind that I haven't played ToC, yet.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
Colonel seems to be akin to Blues in the sword department, as well as being the founding member of TC, like Blues to TB

Defensive Soul

Both Magunetto Soul and Naito Soul seem to be defensively minded.

Stealth Soul

Both Shadouman and Searchman seem to be, in some way built around stealth/finesse

Heavy Tank

As Aim mentioned, Napaamuman is meant to be TB's heavy tank. I can only assume TomahawkMan is TC's.

Support

I'll put ToudoMan and that female one from TB as support.

And then I don't know how to fit Nambaaman and Gyroman together.

Meddy was originally ment to replace rollsoul but didnt do a very good job. it's only useful to me if i have to lay some heavy damage to cloudman by peltng him with pills like doctor mario. ive beaten it and i say my favorite soul is search soul for the fact it pierces invis has a decent seaking chage shot and its easy to get P.A's

Mega X and his fancy navi names...:P

Anyways, I sort of thought about another thing just recently. I like thew souls in this game better than those in the last, and I think the reason is that they allow you to do more and aren't so one track. For instance, to use

Spoiler (click to toggle)
TomahawkSoul
, you do not necessarily have to have lots of grass chips. It allows you to use a nice tactical buster all the same. In the past, elements have always played a heavy role in what styles or souls I ended up using. In the end, I ended up relying almost entirely on Proto and Aqua soul in the last game! But in MMBN5, it's not so one-sided, because every soul has great advantages...

Well, I still don't use
Spoiler (click to toggle)
NumberSoul
too well, but what the hey.-_- It's fine.
