Eh... free-wise you're really not going to find anything great. Best amount of just overall storage space is Gmail. It can hold like 8gb worth of information as I recall. Just save some drafts with files in them and voila. Not exactly public, and definitely the poor man's way to do it, but it works for some things. And hey, if you're trying to share once you have it uploaded on there you can just send it to people. Still... for like actual officially uses it won't get you too far.

As far as freewebs goes. It has some space, not alot though, and you have to wait on your site to increase how much space it can have. In other words, you'd want to make a bunch of them.

G-Mail huh, I've heard of it but never actually USED it. So it's good for hosting files then right? I may try it out, on the other hand the thing I'm using isn't going to be a huge file so. On another note I've moved my actual site to FreeWebs, though I'm going to take you up on the offer of G-Mail thank you Ribitta.
