...what?

Anyway, this topic is actually about gender equality/racial equality and what constitutes racism and sexism. It's far too late for me to rant fully about it at the moment, but simply put: You can be racist to whites and sexist to men just as easily as anyone else.

I do see people running around thinking that those things are impossible, so...what are your thoughts?

It's very probable.
One famous hypothetical situation presented to me is.
Black man/obese woman/skinny chinese guy/any real minority goes to get a job at Abercrombie & Fitch. He's declined the job because of what is thought to be their sex or their race. (Actually, they probably WOULD get the job now, after a number of legal suits and affirmitive action)
Now.
Tom Brokaw goes to BET looking to get a job as a newscaster.
Despite his EXTENSIVE knowledge and experience, he wouldn't get the job.
Is this racism? Is this sexism?
Sure it is, but It's not HATE.
It's image.
A&F wants to appeal to preppy white kids and BET wants to appeal to the black population.

I see it possible, I do think that it happens less often though. Well, the racist thing I am sure happens, but I have never really seen like a Spanish person hate an American (this is just an example) however, for the sexist part, I think you could just take when a woman believes that she is way greater than a man and that a man is low life, dirty, and disgusting.

Hm. Agree I do. I know of quite a few people like that.

It's sad really. I see all the mentality of people running around thinking that you can only be racist towards a non-white person. Granted, racism wouldn't impact white people in the same way, or to the same degree, but that doesn't justify it.

And it seems to me that modern feminism is striving for superiority, not equality.

But, why the Mark Twain quote?

It was pretty much my first post on this new board, os I thought I'd use his quote to make a little joke about the rumors of my death, which may or may not have existed.

I think both are actually quite common, though often unnoticed by a great lot of people.

However, have you also ever consider positive discrimination?

Think about it.

I second that. It's not the case for everyone, mind you, but for some people at least. Why promote feminism instead of equality?

I'm all about equality~ ... then again, I'd make feminists explode if they saw me. c_c

But anyhow, yeah, damn the discrimination. It makes me crazy when I was job hunting because I wasn't sure if I was going to be rejected based on my experience ... or my deafness. ;_; (I don't have to worry about that anymore now that I finally have a nice job. <3)

If you ask me, the only person who isn't discriminatory is a blind person. And even then some blind dudes can be jerks. -_-

Everyone is prejudice in some fashion, I think that's true. And some people are indeed racist, and call me crazy but I don't think that's a problem unless they act on their hatred with defamatory comments towards the other race(s) and/or defaming places of business/homes/churches.

If they quietly steam at home about how they hate honkeys/whitey, yet go to work tomorrow and get along fine with their white coworkers, then who cares? Now certainly if they purposely did something to another person just because of their race..say, didn't give them something they needed, spit in their coffee kind of thing, then yes they need some kind of guidance out of their stupidity. But I do think that all races are more "comfortable" with their "own kind", wasn't there a study on this or something?

I think that's bullcrap though.

The only political correct racistness is racism against white males, or against your own race/gender. Sad, I think. (at least it's this way in the U.S.)

THERE IS NO POLITICAL CORRECT RACISM. THERE EVEN IS NO SUCH THING AS COMMONLY ACCEPTED POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. THANK YOU. HAVE A NICE DAY, NON-BLACK WOMAN.

I deal with a lot of racism at my school. The whites actually get messed with more than the blacks! There's a common belief running around the school that any black guy can beat any white guy any day in a fight. I think that's stupid....tell me, have many black people have you seen in a martial arts tournament? They're all in boxing, and that's not nearly as hard as having to stretch the crud out of your self and practice tons of different moves and what not. ^_- I'm not particularly racist, but I can be towards people that are. I dislike sexists, why not stick to what we were designed to do? The men work and provide for the family and the women cook and take care of the kids and the house! I'm not agaisnt women working, but I am against working moms, it's not fair to the kids.

Well, it depends, if the Mom works while the kids are at school and his home when they are, that seems fine to me.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me the number of femminists who say "all men are sexist pigs". Slight hypocresy, maybe?

Also, I was at Proboards Support Forum and someone made a topic there, "are you sexist", and in that was the one sentance, "do you think men are better than women?". That, for me, summed up sexism, today. The idea that it's impossible for a woman to be sexist and that all men are insignificant wankers, because a few lesbians said so.

Whatever happened to the common sense which women so stereotypically have?

To my knowledge, where I am the biggest annoyance with sexism is by female teachers belittling male students. That works. *rolls eyes*

Fortunately, most girls have enough sense to see this for what it truely is: idiocy.

Wow. 10 minutes in, and I've already ranted :P
