Anyone else agree that Super Smash Bros seriously needs to drop the clonish moves?
I mean, Link and Toon Link pretty much had the same moves, I noticed while playing for the first time today. It kind of dissappointed me, but so far he is my favorite character and probably will be the only one I battle people with. XD

I mean Mario and Luigi had some different moves.
I totally think that Toon Link should have been able to use: Fire/Ice Arrows, Skull Hammer, Deku Leaf (like you double jump, then you float down with it), and something with the Wind Waker should have been his special attack instead of the Triforce Slash. Since I'm a big fan of Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass his character moveset kinda bugged me.

It also kinda bugged me before when Captain Falcon and Ganondorf had the same movesets.

That's really the only thing I think they have to work on next time.
Once I get the game I'll battle all of you.

That's true, but then they would have to spend more time developing completely different characters.

This way, they could spend more time working on other things, and by making slight adjustments on Fox's moveset, they could make Falco and Wolf fans happy (of which there is a decent sized number).

I think there's enough differences between Fox and Falco this time around to be distinct. He has his own animations for several moves with different hitboxes, as well as different stats etc. I think it's a big enough difference to not call them exact clones.

There shouldn't be any clones at all. Sure, there are fans of the clones from the previous game. But they could've given them unique movesets. Ganon and Toon Link should be distinctly different from Captain Falcon and Link. Ness and Lucas should be different, not just have different effects for the same attacks. Granted, they don't have as much clones as in Melee, but still, what's the point of having clones in the first place? They had plenty of time to make unique characters.

I can tell this and I don't even have the damn game.

a few clones don't hurt anybody, als long as they have certain traits their counterpart don't have. in Melee Links spin attack throws the enemy away after a few hits, while Young Links actually sucks them in. and Young Link could wall jump, Link could not.

I also think that they should have added different Final Smashes for some of those (semi-)clone characters (Fox, Flaco and Wolf have almost the same and Link and Toon link have the same. Ness and Lucas almost the same)

Toon Link's Final Smash should have been something with the wind waker or Tetra and the pirates coming in and blasting the field with cannonballs, or even a gaint flood followed by a big Octoroc hitting everybody (except for Toon Link who jumps into the KoRL and sails away)

Falco should have had an Arwing Airstrike Final Smash, dropping Smart Bombs (those red ones with the slow explosion) on random places, or just swooping down back and forth. (he ís the Ace pilot of the team and one of the worst in a Landmaster. plus HE'S A BIRD!)

Wolf should have had a controllable Wolfen coming into the screen, being able to shoot lasers to your enemies. (Starwolf doesn't even have Landmasters in the games)

Sorry RD, but by, as you said, not having the game, you can't really say anything bout clones this time around. =/

Toon Link is the only one I'd consider a real clone here, despite the fact that he plays better than Link, but again that doesn't matter.


Ganondorf and Captain Falcon are completely different this time around. Despite lacking a sword, Ganondorf moves at an incredibly slow rate, and his attacks come out even slower. His side B has gone from a sliding uppercut to a Vader-choke-ish style move, and can even be used for suicides. Likewise, his up B acts as an uppercut, instead of just a "magical leap that does nothing if you don't connect" Down B is a slower Falcon Kick...can't deny that.

The spacies are different completely....sort of. Falco's mB moves mimic Fox's like before, but his A's and aerials have been completely revamped to work differently than Fox in every way. Not to mention his reflector is used as an offense edgeguard rather than a projectile sheild. Wolf, on the other hand....a complete different entity on his own. I can't really even describe it. =/


And Lucas...oh yes, Lucas. While his B moves are,a s you said, B with different effects, one should keep in mind most people use A moves to reel up damage then use a special for a finisher...and I can safely say Lucas's A moves feel drastically different. Unlike Ness, Lucas uses his PSI powers to extend his range, and, IIRC, deala bit more damage than Ness....not to mention his USmash is a godsend from the dreaded yoyo. I always hated Ness, but Lucas has grown into one of my favorite characters.

Ike's slow, but he has insane range and strength. If you use some foresight while playing as him (charging up attacks beforehand), you can land some serious hits.
