Alright so here is what I am confused about. Final Fantasy 3 was not released here as far as I know. Now what I want to know is why? I heard it was because it was just a more indepth remake of the first one but I don't know about that. I also want to know which games were made for which systems. I know that 7-9 were on the PS1 and 10-12 on the PS2 ( Final fantasy 11 being on other platforms as well.) I do not know, however, which of the first 6 were on the NES and SNES. What I really want to know is why 3 was never released here and when did they start making them on the SNES?

The following is my orientation to the FF Timeline of releases in the East and West. It may or may not be accurate.

Final Fantasy 1 was the only Final Fantasy game released on the NES in America. Of course in reality, there were also Final Fantasy 2 and 3. These were excluded in the US because they were thought to be too difficult for US gamers. Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 were released on the SNES. 4 ,5 and 6 were also released in America, but 4 was called 2 and 6 was called 3. 5 remained the same but was considered last of the trio in the US timeline. I'm unsure of what was released under the guise of FF6 in America, but 7 and beyond are parallel in the US and Japan.

Anyway, that's how I thought it worked. Anyone feel free to correct me.

Here's how it goes-

At first:
FF1 US is FF1.
FF2 US is FF4.
FF3 US is FF6.

5 and 6 got rereleased in Final Fantasy Anthology in the US. 4 and Chrono Trigger were rereleased as Final Fantasy Chronicles. 1 and 2 were rereleased as FF Origins for PS1 and Dawn of Souls for GBA. I believe number five was the first one on the SNES, but I'm not really sure.

To correct something, Final Fantasy 5 wasn't released in North America until it's PSX port a few years ago. It was never out on the SNES in that area. As such, 1 came out on the NES, 2 and 3 on the SNES, then 7 followed out of nowhere for the PSX.

Also, just remember that the games go in trios and it's easy to remember on which system they were first released: (going with Japanese numbering here)
FF1 to 3: NES
FF4 to 6: SNES
FF7 to 9: PSX
FF10 to 12: PS2

Finally, Final Fantasy 3 (the Japanese one) is getting a full 3D remake on the DS, and that game is set for release in North America. Final Fantasy 4 was already updated for the GBA; while 5 and 6 are coming, also for the GBA, but with about no updates. Since 1 & 2 were released together as remakes on the GBA some time back, you can get all of the early games in portable form.

Sorry Dranzer, Square has said that they will not be remaking it. And quite frankly it would be a very stupid thing to do.

I have to agree there. Not everything should be reproduced with better graphics constantly like SOME developers seem to do *COUGH* NINTENDO *COUGH* There was nothing wrong with the origonal in my opinion.

Yeah, damn that Nintendo and using the same characters over and over just put into different locales with different graphics just like Capcom does but actually not as redundant! DAMN THEM!
