Why do people write and forward chain emails? And what kind of person believes the things that the emails claim?
Also, post examples of chain emails here.

I'm getting something similar to what Windy is getting, except for a part that I do not have. >_>
I hate chain mail. It deserves to die. *stabs senders*
Maybe some people could benefit from all this advertised Valium sitting in my junk mail folder!

Chain emails aren't advertisements. They are those things that people send over and over to eachother, like jokes, or 'sad stories' or "send this to 10 friends and you will find true love!
Not viagra or valium ads.

SAMPLE CHAIN LETTER TEXT
The Story of Amanda
I once knew this girl and her name was Amanda. We were real good friends, but there was something different about her. She had a fast-spreading cancer and she was only 14. A few months ago she told me that when she dies she wanted a chain letter to be sent around about her. She also said that she will haunt anyone who doesn't send it.
Well, Amanda died a few weeks ago, so I'm doing her wish.

I usually only get the hmm... 'other mail' on my Earthlink e-mail address. Although I thought we cancelled those a while ago when we switched to Cox.
But, I don't get as much chain letters as I get 'other mail'. But chain letters are kinda stupid. Some people don't like random stories about people in their inbox. =/
1. Morphy, you are a pervert.
2. I don't get 'that mail' on that e-mail, only on my Earthlink one.
3. When have you ever told me this?
4. It has high speed internet. I can surf the web and send e-mails fast.
~Zoom~
5. Learn to take a joke, Kagome.

I had it like mad, when I used to show my e-mail on all the boards i'm on, the main one was OTC though (closed board so now it doesn't really matter). I never get virus e-mail because I switched my Email adress. I hate Comcast though. (Stupid crappy ISP XG)
Hey beautiful people, you're better off trying to e-mail me than message me on here.
Gmail is pretty nice.
I thought that this was about spam at first... I've got a bell ringing in my head as soon as "e-mail" is mentioned, it seems!
What doesn't seem to exist anymore (at least, I haven't seen any in years) are actual chain letters sent through the postal service. We used to get some, rarely, at home. I bet that people just moved on to e-mail because you don't need to rewrite a complete letter, like it used to be!

I got some BS letter about this secret society crap. Does that count?
Oh yeah, man. Secret society letters are all chain emails.

Ri, I was joking too! D=>
Hey beautiful people, you're better off trying to e-mail me than message me on here.
GMail for the win!
I never get stupid spam anymore. The few Chain letters I get come from my Mother.
I want a script that removes me from the list of people getting an Email if the list contains more than 3 people. Seriously.
I don't want to hear your Christian Joke of the Day mom.
"I worship the Supreme Comrade Cossack!"
Chain mail is really starting to bug me.
But last time I put it so I'd go in the Junk folder, a lot of my normal mail did so I guess I'll live with it.

Nightmares are dreams that need re-coding.
I got a chain letter in the postal mail ONCE. It was about GoldenBooks; you had to send three GoldenBooks and would recieve new ones, or something like that. My stepmother forced me to do it, and, of course, I never got them back. All other letters I recieved were just passed aropund in school, you know, "Copy this by hand and drink a glass of milk in 15 days and say the name of your crush..." I think I personally only got one of those once. But the chain letter from the postal mail didn't require you to hand-copy. I've never heard of anyone getting one (like in certian horror movies/novels) that says you will die.

Well this isn't actually chain mail, but I got mail from someone who found my e-mail on a dating service and mailed me. In the message they called me 'Kagome_Sakura' so I assumed it was someone from IO, doing something? But, my e-mail also contains kagome_sakura, so, meh. =/
I have no clue how a dating service got my e-mail. It looks like I'm going to have to break someone's heart and not mail them back. >.o
EDIT: Usually when I get chain mail, in the 'to' box, it contains someone else's e-mail. But this one contained my name.
