It really irritates me that scientists keep doing studies to tell us WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW. Today's study, found on Yahoo News, tells us this vital piece of info:

"Children with a parent who smokes, drinks heavily or uses marijuana are more likely to adopt these behaviors when they're teens or adults, U.S. research suggests."

NO S***.

While they're blowing money for these stupid studies, they could be doing something USEFUL. Like curing cancer caused by these pesky cigarettes. But I guess that's just out of the question.

They needed to conduct a study and piss away useful money to find out this useful piece of information?

Wow. Just wow.

My mind is blown.

My faith in science has been lowered quite drastically yet again.

"Dear God, Nigel! Do you understand the significance of this finding?"

"Unless it happens to be that we don't have a clue about how to do anything useful like cure cancer or AIDs... then no."

"It means that parents actually have an influence on their kids! This... this goes against anything we've ever thought!"

"Yeah, who knew that by raising kids you'd actually have any sort of effect on them? Pretty big bombshell."

Just for the record, curing the common cold might be harder than curing AIDs or Cancer. The reason for this is that there are several hundred viruses and bacteria that cause it, and they mutate awfully quickly.

why the HELL do research on things already done a thousend times and not something never done?!?1/!?!

they just want people to stop doing thing that might hurt the future generations, even if they have to repeat. my mother smokes.


but read carefully, "more likely". if you can stop the kids from doing it, and let them know the dangers, it will be "more likely" that they will think twice before doing it.

teach them other ways to "enjoy" life

I know, I know. It's just that in reality the common cold isn't a problem that can feasibly be solved.

It may not even be that bad of a thing, after all without something like this to keep us on our toes we might get... complacent.

Yeah, without drilling this into our brain every so often, the dangers of smoking fall into the urban myths of hook-handed men and competent presidents.

Don't forget the urban legends of honest politians.

Yup. Urban legends, just like Smart Blondes, Lawyers from anywhere but Hell, and Carrots improving your eyesight.

Right, you want to give the flu the motivation it needs to mutate into the Maverick virus? No better way to piss off a virus than to hunt it.
