Seriously though, the dub really butchered Naruto. I mean, you can debate whether or not the original was of any quality in the first place, but there's no question that the dub made it even worse.

In all fairness, translating Dattebayo isn't very easy, but "Believe it"... yeah, it's worse than not trying at all.

Well, it could've been worse. And you KNOW that it could've been worse.

Oh come now, I expect perfection from translators.

It's like saying about the Iraq War: "Oh, Bush is OK. I mean, it could have been worse, he could have nuked Iraq."

I mean yes, one is fictional and the other actually has ramifications, but we shouldn't settle for mediocrity, should we?

You can't exactly compare a dub with the war in Iraq. Would perfection be nice? Of course. But then again a dub isn't as critical as the war.

A perfect Naruto dub would be, at the least, the last show on Toonami. I don't know how crazy the original gets but I don't think it's that bad. Considering the notoriousness of dubs that don't play on Adult Swim, this dub wasn't as bad as expected.

Like I said, I'm not trying to equate a TV show to a war, my point is that if we start letting one group get off easy for doing a bad job under the rationale that it could be worse, where do we draw the line, exactly?

And I suppose it's the voices that get me, really. Although translating Dattebayo as "Believe it" also annoys me, also in part, due to the voices.

See, that's the thing. In the Japanese language, some words are used that don't actually add substance. It's more like flavor to make the sentence more cute, childish, tough or what have you.

-ttebayo basically sends across the idea of being uncultured and acting tougher than you are.

What would you rather have Naruto say in the dub to replace Dattebayo, then, Mega X?

I dunno. I guess I'd rather that, instead of trying to push something in to synch the lip-movement, they concentrated on communicating the idea.

Then again, I haven't watched the dub ever since I started watching the subs.

Well, you can't just have him flap his lips and nothing comes out. Maybe they cut out the seconds that has the Dattebayo in it?

And yeah, Naruto could have been like One Piece. But both of their dubs are pretty bad regardless.

The one time I found X-play funny was when they tryed to find Naruto a new catch phrase during their review of Naruttimate hero, the catch phrase "It burns when I pee" sounds the same as "Believe it!" to me...

I've just noticed that Dranzer has an obsession with the word, 'emo'.

Just an observation.

I hate what America did to Naruto....they edit out all the bad words and cool/violent blood scenes occasionally, and sometimes cut out huge chunks of an episode.
I'd watch the Jap episodes anytime, subs are cool.

I know I'll get slaughtered for saying this but I think Naruto can win, don't know why but he's not that weak. T_T (Jap Naruto anyway) someone's gotta stand up for the dude. :mad:.....

No offence to you slash beast(I'd never mean to offend you)but I think Akuma whould win,he's one of most powerful characters in street fighter and if don't already know,he smashed a mountain with his fist,but I do like the fact that you are loyal fan of naruto.

Well, it'd be fairly interesting to see. Naruto is the kind of guy whose power just keeps growing, and Akumu already is really powerful. I don't know how many of you follow the Naruto anime, but if you do, have you ever seen the fight of Neji and Naruto? Even though Neji kept beating the crap out of Naruto, the little bastard just kept going, and eventually even won.
Alright, Akumu would be about the equivalent of a Jounin, or perhaps a Kage in the Naruto world, but it's proven already that Naruto has mastered several techniques a Jounin could hardly accomplish.

Timing is crucial, still. But I think Akumu does have a greater chance of winning. Say, 89%.

I take it you haven't kept up with the manga, Morph. He even gave Orichimaru some problems later on.
