Respected members of our community we call Interordi, there is a question that has been lurking in my mind as of late. It regards the entire Megaman franchise, but this isn't a question so simple as what your favorite series is. No, that issue has already likely been investigated.

The question I ask is what era of the Megaman series are you most fond of?

I'd hope I wouldn't need to explain this in too much detail.

Are you a fan of the NES era(Megaman 1-6)?
Or do you prefer the SNES era(MM X-X3 and Megaman 7)?
Or is it the PSX era(MMX4-6, MM 8 and Legends 1 and 2) that fits your fancy?
Or would you consider yourself more a fan of the current era, mostly dominated by handheld games?

...

Personally, I like the NES games the most. Alot of this has to do with the fact that the original series always has been my favorite. While I did enjoy Megaman 7 and Megaman 8, to me, they just don't have the magic that the series had on the NES. There is just something special about these games, and I'd like to think it isn't just nostalgia. Still, that is part of the appeal to me. I played the NES as a young boy and they captivated me.

The SNES and PSX eras were enjoyable as well to me, but I they're not as special to me. The current era.. honestly I feel kinda excluded from it because I never really played handheld games for the longest time, though I do now own a DS and PSP. Though I rarely play either. Honestly though, I haven't even tried any of the new series past Legends. With more focus and releases of the new series these days, I have to admit that I haven't played Megaman very much these last few years.

I'm still a big fan of the old games, however. ;o

And now I pass the torch to you all: which is your favorite era?

Well, as you may know, I've enjoyed pretty much every Megaman game I can recall trying, which encompasses the natural games of the original Megaman series (1-8), Power Battles, Megaman X games (excluding 7), MMXCM, the bunch of MML games, and MMBN 1-6, as well as Transmission. I'd say it's a pretty good scope, although granted I've never played anything past the BN series or some of the more esoteric games (Battle and Chase, Megaman Soccer, Xtremes, etc.).

My big dilemma comes in in that I liked MML so much, but I really didn't care for MMX4-6 or MM8 more than I did the rest of the series. This makes it a bit hard to choose, because to choose that era just for MML seems to say that I really don't particularly care about the other series, which I do...

Still though, I'm going with the PSX era. The Legends games were a time of discovery for me; I'd never enjoyed characters that much before. I wouldn't trade that series for my fandom of the entirety of the rest of the games. It really was... the game. I went back and played them again recently, and they were absolutely timeless. They were beautiful. T___T

So despite the fact that it means neglecting the other series, I'd definitely say that the PSX era was the big high point for me. On another note, I technically wasn't around for the NES and SNES era, even though I've played the games now, so I guess that kind of rules them out...

Oddly enough, I'd go for the PSX era. And no, that's not a rejection of the original series.

First of all, I'm a big fan of the three X games that came out for the Playstation. All three happen to be among my favorite Mega Man games. I found X4, X5 and X6 to each be special in their own way, and I often go back to play them. It's nice to see 2D games on a system that didn't focus too much on those, while making use of the extra hardware available to add voices and special effects.

The other main reason is that I imported all of the Rockman Complete Works games, and I love the upgrades they gave to the original six Mega Man games. As far as I'm concerned, those are the definitive versions of these classics, and they're the ones that I play over the NES originals.

I also found Rockman Battle & Chase and SuperAdventure Rockman to be enjoyable, which gives extra points for the PSX era. :)

I think that the Mega Man X series really sparked my Mega Man likeness although, I did play the heck out of the originals. MMX1 was cool because it stayed fairly consistent to the Mega Man franchise, but utilized a stronger engine.

The first X game still stands out as one of my favorite Super NES games. It was tough, but on the same level it was addictive, at my first play time.

Then X2 and MM7 rolled in. For the first time, two separate Mega Man series continued simultaneously, insuring that Mega Man would not only be a video game landscape survivor with variety, but he would have the potential to continue to grow and change forms in the near future, while maintaining his originality.

Mega Man 7 is probably my favorite Original Mega Man game. It was superior to all of its predecessors in virtually every department and introduced Bass and Treble.

To top it all off, it was around this time the Mega Man cartoon was having a big impact on the Saturday morning TV lineup, and an action figure collection to follow. I remember getting up at 6:30am every morning with my Gutsman and Mega Man figures from Bandai based off the show every Saturday morning to tune in.

I always contemplated how in the games, Mega Man was made to be a kid, but the in show, he was an adult. It was fascinating to see the transition. I was absolutely stoked that Mega Man was finally getting the recognition he deserved and that he was right up there on the same level as Spidey, X-Men and of course the TMNT.

The Mega Man show didn't follow the games exactly like we had hoped, but it was enough to keep me from missing out. Unfortunately, the show's cancellation also lead to the demise of the figures and Mega Man was soon found sticking with his roots and for he was best known as, a video game hero.

It was nice to know just how far Mega Man's limits could be pushed around that era. The Cartoon show was a complete surprise to me and the mainstream of games and figures will forever be the pinnacle of Mega Man's career in my mind. So for me, the SNES era was definitely my favorite time for Mega Man.

Mega Man X4 was my first, formal introduction to the Mega Man metaseries (Saw the American show first), but despite this, I do not hold myself to any particular system era for said metaseries.

Though I do love the X games, both on SNES, and the earlier ones on PS, and I like the MMZ series on GBA, my vote has to go with the original NES. Maybe it's just sentimental value, but heck, my fiance and I can sit and play those together for hours, forget all the new games, lol

Oddly enough I have to choose the PSX era here. Mainly because if it weren't for X4 I never would have gotten into Megaman. The interesting part though is after that, my uncle gave me his old NES and all the games from that Era. I still have to track down a SNES to play that Era's cartridge editions. However, the X series has always just been more intriguing in my book, and I say X4 is the crown jewel of the series.

I have to go with the PSX era. I played my very first Megaman game (Megaman X4) on that thing. Megaman Legends was a departure of the series, but at the time, I didn't know and really enjoyed playing it. Definitely a nostalgia factor here, because I never had a NES or SNES when I was a kid. I grew up with Sega and Playstation.

But as I got older and played the NES titles, they were fun. Not very creative, but fun. That's cool with me because sometimes some of the best things created you can't improve past a certain point. ^_^ If I grew up with these, I would probably call this my favorite era.

I really have no opinion on the SNES era other than the games had "nice" graphics...

And the current time, I find nothing really likable about it (other than Command Mission, the X games, and the first 3 Megaman Battle Network games). Most of the stories are getting darker, there are too many characters to count, and losing sight of its past.

I have to say that while I can't pick a favorite era, there are definitely high points from each one. In the early days, 2, 3, 5, and 6 seem a little more important to me than 1 and 4. I liked X and X2 more than X3 and VII. X4 and X6 were my favorites on PSX. The PS2 games missed the mark entirely, though I'm not far in CM so I can't really say much for it. The current handhelds are the most clearly hit-or-miss. EXE1 was refreshing, but not enough to hook me in. Zero is challenging in a good way. Both PSP titles warrant buying a PSP, which I would not have done otherwise.

As for the future of the series, I don't have high expectations. Things should continue on the way that they've been going since about X5. Unless Inafune steps in with something new, X is doomed. Unless he stops lightening up Zero, it will become the new EXE. As for EXE, I think we all know the answer to that. It has an audience, and that audience is younger than that of the other series.

My best guess is that each series will eventually end, rather than just get left alone like DASH has been these past years. Rockman 9 will show the demise of Wily and the last of Rock's adventures. X9 will show the final demise of Sigma, X being wimpy, and Zero going into hiding. DASH 3 will finally explain the truth behind the humans and the reaverbots. EXE27 will be done when its audience is in college, so it'll be about the internet being overloaded with pr0n and the navis having to stop it. And Zero will die in the end, somehow. Whether they'll be fun to play or not depends on Inafune's level of involvement.

First and foremost: A most extragent title, Necro, and perhaps, daresay, eloquent to the nth degree.

As for my favourite era timeline, I was weened with MM5-6 first on the NES, and I loved both of them. Although after having the ability to charge my buster, going back to play the first few was a total...well, insert a lot of not nice words here. I know I'm not as...venerable as some here, but this is what I remember playing FIRST.

As for the SNES, X captured my heart. I was the go-to guy back in grade school for all the tips: "How do you beat Storm Eagle, he keeps pushing me off the plane", "Where's the helmet", stuff like that. X2 was interesting, but the first one will always hold a place in my heart, and so will Fruity Pebbles. Mass quantites were consumed in my pajamas playing that game.

Moving into the PSX games, I LOVELOVELOVE the Legends series, although the X games for the console weren't as full of the whimsy I remember from my younger days. Legends are FTW here.

...The gameboy games. Yeah. MMBN destroyed my faith in Capcom for a while. MMZ wasn't bad, but it just...KEPT...GOING...

I do however, have to say kudos to the new MM game MMZX. That game recaptured the whimsy I remember from the old SNES game, and I felt rejuvenated and...well, like a kid again. No pajamas this time, though.

Megaman Command Mission was alright. I haven't finished it yet, so I can't really pass judgement, but I like the game a lot. It's a pain in the tukus to fight all the previous bosses again, though. -_-

Overall however, if we're judging by the most fondness I had with the games, it's going to have to be the SNES era. MMX was -the- game for me, and even now I go back and play though it every so often on complete speed runs. A very close second goes to the PSX series simply for Legends. Legends showed that even though you may change the graphics, story, and major character's stories, the game still holds the qualities that you're looking for in a Megaman game. Kudos to that.

...And now, I sound old.

Reality swirled in a wholly blue manner, revealing absolutely nothing of merit. Things flashed madly in and out of existence like some entirely other sort of phenomena. On a whim, Kurt Vonnegut imploded, taking a sizeable hunk of Massachusetts with him. However, seeing as Massachusetts wasn't entirely sure it existed, the chunk wasn't all that big.

I like the first three X games the most, so SNES for me. 7 was a rockin' game too, maybe just because I was so proud I actually got through it though? I'm bad at platformers, yeah.

Yet MM 2 is just about my favorite Megaman game so...

I also really liked Legends. Ahaha, I'm making this difficult.

Personally, I would have to go with the current, handheld-dominated era, as most of the MM games I have played are of this era, although I also quite enjoyed the 16-bit games on the SNES.

And yeah, Zero was much better before he opened his mouth, ran into Iris, and had crazy nightmares.
