Okay we all know about the Nintendo DS but... I gotta know, is there something seperate you need to equip to the DS to give it this online sort of capability? Or is it built in? I know it's got a chat room on the DS menu but how does that work exactly?

I might be getting a DS soon with both Pokemon Diamond and Pearl so I thought I'd ask. If you have the answers please let me know, also if you wanna talk about Diamond and Pearl here feel free to do so.

First of all, PictoChat (the built-in chatroom) works only for local chat. You can chat with people as long as they are in range of your Nintendo DS, which works well at parties, in waiting lines, and so on.

The online mode covered by several games, including the recent Pokémon releases, is through a Wi-Fi connection. If you have a wireless router available somewhere (at home, at a coffee shop, ...), you can connect with it to bring your DS online.

If you don't happen to have a wireless router setup, you can also buy the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Adaptor. That device is plugged in to a computer which has a standard Internet connection and works as a dedicated link point for your DS. The thing is easily found in most stores that carry DS games.

Oh, thanks Doc, hey maybe you can tell me this, as for the local thing, Can it reach for a certain amount of miles or does it deal in feet or what?

The range is definitely closer to feet than miles: while you can probably get a connection with someone located anywhere in your house, I wouldn't count on reaching a friend living two streets away.

As far as D/P goes, as long as you have the person's friend code and they have yours, and you both can connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you can battle and trade whenever, wherever (as long as "wherever" supports Wi-Fi).

Friend code? Huh? I'm confused can you explain it please?

When you first connect to the WiFi network, you will be given a friend code that you can check at anytime in your game. The gamecart will also treat your DS and gamecart as a set. Meaning, your friend code will change if you lend the game to a friend and he connects to WiFi on his DS.

You log into wifi.

You get friend code.

You give friend code to people.

People play you.

Heh cool, yeah if I can get this custom bundle pack thingy I saw at walmart.com I can get not only a DS but I can get a case for it and 2 games of my choice(My choice being Diamond and Pearl of course hahaha)

Well, thanks to the GTS functionof Diamond and Pearl, it's really better to buy one version, as I've discovered, and just make online trades for the unobtainables. I got both versions and beat both, but now one is neglected while the other gets all the play time. :[

Of course, once I get my team and all the legendaries out of Pearl, I'll trade it all back to Diamond - because that veriosn is cooler. :P

Empolion's steel type makes it suck.

Torterra's movepool completely contrasts it's base stats.

Infernape is actually useful competitivly.

I would, for the reasons Teej stated - Empoleon's adaption of Steel makes it weak to most things it souldn't be weak to, Torterra just sucks up and down, which leaves Infernape, which is good unless you're up against another player who worked up an anti-Blaziken force in the last gen.

If you can evolve Chimchar (lv.16) before Gym 1, I'd say that'll give you a good, smooth run for a while.

And the advantages of haveing two games are that one, you can import 12 Pokés per day as opposed to 6, and that you can get all version-specifics much more easily than through trades.

Also: Infernape is a really good overall pokemon for an In-Game Team...the only pokemon I ever had trouble with was Gyarados. >__>

^First off, all the fire types in D/P are Chimchar and Pnyta.

Second: Having a team with just one type is idiotic. >__> Why do you think Gym Leaders are so easy to beat? Someone brings out a Swampert, you die.

Swampert's no big deal... I've had it before, I know what it's capable off... With the proper trainer of course heh....

Crasher Wake's gonna eat you alive. :P

Seriously, get a Shinx and maybe a Kricketot, Magikarp, or Abra and train them to get your type range spread out - then the game is cake if you train enough - as in not running form every battle, even if you don't want to fight it.

Gym leader 4 - type, Water. His Gyarados will murder your Monferno/Infernape, and likely to the same to Ponyta/Rapidash. And then he's got two more after that. Better bring a Luxio or Luxray along for the trip. ;)

Dude, I know you. You are always way to overconfident, and you throw a fit when you lose. Just avoid that and get a variety, for god's sake. For an in-game team (Not competitive, mind you), you can get and raise a few good pokemon early on.

I'm thinking.

Chimcar
Budew
Buizel
Shinx
Starly
Bidoof (HM slave)

That should get you through most of the game.

Bidoof- The "vendor's trash" Pokemon- Bidoof is this game's rattata. There are 8 Billion of them; They suck, and no on will trade for one. Catach one to complete your dex, then bury it so deep in your storage system, that you never have to see it's ugly face again. (On a side note, Dranzer has been ripped off of a Lvl 10 Chimchar for a lvl. 100 bidoof, and believe me, even then, THEY SUCK.)
