I saw that monster last night over at The BBPS, and I'm still having some difficulty having a clear opinion of it. It's definitely strange, it looks large, and yet it would look really neat in several gaming setups. I'll let you read the article for a more detailed explanation of the beast. IGN and Kotaku both have some more information from their E3 reports.

Any opinions on this? Is that something that you'd purchase for your own living room, or is it too silly? I'm a bit on the fence about it myself. On one hand, it does look like a great party accessory. On the other side, would it really get used enough to be worth it? Would it scare visitors away?

Note that this is still a prototype, and Nyko wants to improve it in a few ways before it's sent to stores.

Huh, that's pretty cool. But yeah, the design could be a bit better.

I don't have a very good party-tv-awesome room as of yet, but that would be in it if I had one!

I would get one, if I had a Wii.

Honestly, I think if anyone is planing to make something like this, make it for all gamers. Not just Wii. Some holders for 360 controllers, or just controllers in general would be a great idea to go along with it. Otherwise I think it would be worth it.

No it's not. The 360 is still in the lead though the Wii is catching up fast.

EDIT: And no, personally I would not purchase the unit. The people I'm friends with don't really play video games or are addicted to WoW (;p), so something like this would be useless to me. Especially if it's a Wii exclusive thing considering I don't own one.

The 360's lead is only current because it has been around for much longer. The Wii is the fastest spreading system I've ever seen, dragging in everyone I know that I wouldn't normally expect to like it. It's really odd.

Doc, what does it actually do? I see buttons and all, but you didn't post any functions. Are those what the links are?

I gave the links exactly to cover the list of features! Since people apparently won't click them, I'll provide a short list here. If you want the details, you know where to get them!

Bowl for chips and the like + dip compartment (the border of the bowl glows!)
Four freezable cups to keep cans of beverage cold
Bowling alley-style fan to dry your hands
Four slots to store Wiimotes
Tray to store some small items (a few nunchucks fit)
Score display to be used manually, which makes it compatible with virtually any game you think of

As I said, this is still a prototype being worked on. Nyko wants to tweak some features, such as having a larger bowl for the chips. I'll seriously consider it if they make the Wiimote holders compatible with their very own Charge Station (I e-mailed them with the idea).

The bowl needs to be bigger, but overall, it sounds like a cool tchotchke.

Your idea about the charge station is awesome - so obvious yet it never crossed my mind.

That amount of food wouldn't last one hour when I'm playing videogames, especially if I'm playing games with someone else. Other than as a decoration, it's not practical to me.
