Alright. Well, for those of you who know about the VC know that there are some games out there worth putting in. Also, this could be a good topic for game recommendations and reviews. So, anybody out there who wants to share their thoughts on games and ideas ect., feel free to share here.

If you need an idea, here's a list of some VC games:

http://www.nintendo.com/wii/virtualconsole/games

Games I have:

> Super Mario Bros. (NES)
> Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels (NES)
> Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)
> Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
> Super Mario World (SNES)
> Super Mario 64 (N64)
> Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)

> Mega Man 3 (NES)
> Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN)
> Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GEN)
> Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (GEN)
> Sonic & Knuckles (GEN)
> Sonic the Hedgehog (MS)
> Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MS)
> Sonic Chaos (MS)
> Super C (NES)
> Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES)
> Secret of Mana (SNES)
> River City Ransom (NES)
> Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
> Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES)
> Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble (SNES)
> Final Fantasy (NES)

Games I want to see released:

> Chrono Trigger (SNES)
> Mega Man X (SNES)
> Mega Man X2 (SNES)
> Mega Man X3 (SNES)
> Mega Man X4 (GCN)
> Mega Man X5 (GCN)

> Contra (NES)
> Super Mario Land (GB)
> Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (GB)
> Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (GB)
> Metroid 2: The Return of Samus (GB)
> Donkey Kong 64 (N64)
> Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge (GB)
> Mega Man II (GB)
> Mega Man III (GB)
> Mega Man IV (GB)
> Mega Man V (GB)
> The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB)
> The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC)

> Mega Man Xtreme 2 (GBC)
> Kirby's Dream Land (GB)
> Pokemon: Red, Blue, and Yellow (GB)
> Sonic CD (SCD)
> Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (GG)

So anyways, anybody with comments, reviews and game suggestions go ahead and post 'em. Any information for me would be great too. :)

I would like to see Mega Man X4, X5, and X6 come to the VC individually, considering those games were released recently for the GCN via Mega Man X Collection. Just as long as you can use the Classic Controller for them!

I'm all for the release of Gameboy/Gameboy Color games for the VC, so I went ahead and added some games I'd like to see from there.

I'm also all for Sega Saturn, Game Gear, and Sega CD games to be released as well (mainly for MM8, Sonic Triple Trouble, and Sonic CD, respectively.)

Games i want and Available

none, have them all

Games I want to see in the shop

-Super Mario RPG
-Kirby games (any) (SNES)
-Chrono Trigger

Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger would be first time release here in Europe (they never got released here)

and about the save games, the Wii will "pause" the game for you. when you quit the game the right way, with the Wiimote and the Wii menu, the game actually gets paused. when you start up the game again, you just continue where you left. you can turn of your wii and it won't be deleted.

Note that this does NOT apply to N64 games, which are to "big" to pause, i don't know about Genesis, NeoGeo and TurboGraph games,

BUT when you put the game on a SD-card, that "pause" will be cancelled, and you will lose your temporary save file.(you will have to start over with Mega Man since it doesn't have save function)

I don't know what happens with normally saved games. (in-game save menu, autosave).

i hope it's clear now?

and about recommendations... uhm... maybe Sin and Punishment, an arcade shooter? or the Donkey Kong Country trilogy. those are nice games.

That was something I was looking out for, and was kind of giving me the influence to get it for that one reason. Is it worth it, even though the overall quality of the game might be flawed?

That might very well be related to the NTSC / PAL timing issues. To keep it short, North American and Japanese television use a standard called NTSC, which runs at 60 Hz, while European and Australian television is on PAL, at 50 Hz. This means that, unless a game is adapted to the two different markets properly, it will run at different speeds. It's possible that the original Mega Man 1 release, on the NES, didn't bother fixing the timing issues while the Virtual Console port fixed that. As such, you'd get the impression that the game runs at a somewhat different speed.

As for games I'd like to see on the Virtual Console, I'm excluding all of the Sonic games: I own the Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Adventure DX, which give me access to the complete Genesis and Game Gear catalog. Same goes for the original Mega Man games: I can play the Anniversary Collection for that, which comes cheaper than purchasing each title for 500 points.

People seem to forget that Megaman Legends was also on the N64, so I'll be adding that to my list, as well as Super Mario RPG.

Quote:
Information found at Wiki:
Games ported to PAL have historically been known for having game speed and framerates inferior to their NTSC counterparts. Since the NTSC standard is 60 frames per second but PAL is 50 frames per second, games were typically slowed down by approximately 17.5% in order to avoid timing problems or unfeasible code changes. In addition to this, PAL's increased resolution was not utilized during conversion, creating a pseudo letterbox effect with borders top and bottom, leaving the graphics with a slightly squashed look due to an incorrect aspect ratio caused by the borders. This was especially prevalent during previous generations when 2D graphics were used almost exclusively. The gameplay of many games with an emphasis on speed, such as the original Sonic The Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive, suffered in their PAL incarnations.

But, does that also mean music tracks suffer too? Evidently, in the video I should it sure does. Not currently sure as to whether or not Mega Man 1 and 2 run any better on the NTSC frequency. Can't seem to find any Virtual Console Review sites (with videos) that relate to the North American versions of VC games.

I'd also like to add, the only way I'd want Sonic and Knuckles is if you can somehow, emulate Sonic 2 and 3 equivalent to the Lock-On Technology of the original.

And yes, good point BD. Majora's Mask would be quite a fine addition to VC. As for Mega Man 3, well, if they release that game, they should stop there with the originals. X, X2, and X3 I could see being released. I'm really pulling for the Gameboy Mega Man games though.

Everything in the game is slowed down, including the music. That's one of the most noticeable changes too, as it really gives a different tempo to some tracks.

I'd expect that to happen, as it was done before: the Sonic Mega Collection package has the equivalent of the Lock-On technology. You can play Sonic 3 & Knuckles (and the others) as stand-alone games once you've unlocked then.

a nice example of slowdown is Sonic Mega Collection in the PAL regions. i have it and everytime i start this game up i want to play it on 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz, simply because Green Hill Zone sounds a lot better in 60 Hz then in 50Hz.

i do have the feeling that some games in the VC go as fast in Pal Regions as they go in NTSC regions. i can't remember Megaman 2 having a little bit faster music, but it has been a long time since i played originally.

Since that initial post, we've got Chrono Trigger on the DS, and I'm very satisfied with that release. It pretty much kills any wishes for a VC release in my book.

I already have many of the games mentioned here for the original consoles or another rerelease, and because of that I won't purchase them for the Virtual Console unless I run into some hardware failure or something similar. For example, I have the Rockman Complete Works for the Playstation. These games include much more content than the bare NES versions (and no reversed controls either!), so I don't have any reason to get them. Likewise, I have all Super Mario games already, so I can replay them whenever I want.

Where the VC becomes fun for me is for the systems I never had. Apparently, some of the Bomberman games for the TurboGrafx 16 were pretty good, and I might give them a shot someday. I also plan to try out Gunstar Heroes on the Sega Genesis, I heard good things about that one.

I like Chrono Trigger DS as well, but something about being able to play it on a television, listed among many other favorites among my VC game collection, all in one place kind of just feels right.

I was a little hesitant about purchasing a bunch of games I already own again, but for the most part, I'd say it was worth it. Changing from game to game is as easy as pushing a button, now that most of those games are all in one place.

Suspended save states is one of the definite pluses of purchasing any VC game (with the exception of N64 games, which don't support this feature). I love that I can pick up and play where I last left off with any game, and not have to worry about passwords, or force myself to playthrough an entire game in one sitting for the games that don't have any password/saving at all. You also don't have to worry about holding reset for those certain games that do have a save feature, or losing save data in general (as far as I know).

All in all, it's more for the sake of convenience to re-purchase games for the VC. And it is quite handy.

I'll easily give you that point. Playing through Super Mario Bros 3 by visiting all levels is one heck of a gaming run, considering that the game doesn't have any kind of passwords or save system. Power outages were a dramatic issue in the 1980's!

Does anyone here suppose Gameboy and Gameboy Color games should be released for the VC?

There are some great titles for the GB/GBC that I think merit a re-release for the Wii.

I know people are probably thinking that if any service should get the GB/GBC games, it should the DSi. Perhaps a feature that would allow you to transfer certain games between the Wii console and DSi might help drive sales, depending on which system(s) people own.

There's room for that. If Phoenix Wright can make the jump on WiiWare, other handheld titles (especially older games) can make the jump and live there. Maybe we'd finally be able to get our Mega Man GB series rerelease that way. Games that didn't get a wide release, such as Shantae (who's getting a DSi sequel!) would get a second life this way, and other obscure titles much like the Kid Icarus sequel would probably get some attention too.

I'm afraid of Nintendo doing this for the DSi, though, as might be interested in a few games yet I have no plans to get that system. It'd be easy to port such old games to both the DSi and Wii, so I don't see why they shouldn't do it...

I don't see why anyone would buy the MM games on VC. They were just released in a collection not THAT long ago, but I guess all the fanboys traded in their PS2s...

Also Castlevania the Adventure: Rebirth is great, and so is the VC release of Rondo of Blood.

"not THAT long ago" is almost six years already. :) That's plenty of time for new gamers to come in, unable to get their hands on that collection. While I wouldn't get those games myself (as I've said, I own a superior version), I can see why others would spend their money there.

I've seen last Friday that Rondo of Blood is finally available. I've been waiting to get a chance to play that one for years! I'll be sure to give it a spin sooner or later, apparently it's worth it.
