Here's what it would be: mega man X.
Familiar? Since mega man uses roman numerals... get my point?

I almost got excited there.
Even though the X Series takes place after the events of the Original, it doesn't mean the time line officially has to come full circle. Sure, it makes sense for things to all come together, but the way I see it is the X Series is just another take on the Mega Man franchise; an alternate route. This way, any of the current Mega Man franchises out there can still technically spawn infinite sequels, without crossing any borders of any other Series.
Sorry, but it doesn't really work this way.
If Mega Man X is Mega Man 10, then what is X2? Mega Man 12? Mega Man X-2? Besides, considering the current situation of the series, I wouldn't be surprised at all that the original series would get another sequel called "Mega Man 10", thus contradicting everything.

Sorry bro-ha, but back in the day, I said the same thing before 9 ever was even announced. If I had to justify this, here would be my point.
A. Capcom doesn't want to confuse people by releasing X and X-I, as stupid people would think they were the same game and not rush towards X-I waving their money like complete morons.
However, this theory requires a counterpoint.
Anti-A. Capcom can't think that far ahead. This is a company that took about a decade too much to release 9. If they really intended for this kind of numerical system, then that would have concretely announced Mega Mans 7-9, which basically trickled out of the empty money train anyways. This is a company that puts the NO in innovation. This is a company that makes crappy wii ports of awesome games that severely limit the games. Saying they intended for this would be giving them too much credit.
Hey beautiful people, you're better off trying to e-mail me than message me on here.
Capcom would call it Mega Man 10, than onto MM 11, instead of XI. it just wouldn't fit into the Original numbering system.

You actually had me fooled until I looked in the thread........DAMN YOU!
Now that there is a MM10, this topic could or should be padlocked and tossed overboard.
